Sunday's ride with @twilwel was just over 120 km, the first 70 km were in an easterly direction against a raging force 4 headwind. We visited the ancient star shaped fort of Bourtange where we had coffee before riding back. On the return journey the wind actually did help us.

Today's weather was really nice and the #assenliggers went for a bike ride as we do on Sundays. @twilwel, @TheoZw and Gert provided the excellent company today.

My personal target for today was to reach a total of 0.08 Gm on the bike computer in my Mango velomobile, which was reached a few km before I got home. 84 km in total. Not the longest ride we've ever done, but certainly one of the sunniest.

A couple of photos from today's recreational velomobile ride in Drenthe and Groningen. Not one of our longer rides, but I did at least cycle along for more km than my age. There was a strong wind again today so the velomobile's and their much better aerodynamics really made a difference, certainly compared to my ride yesterday on an open bike in similar condtions when I really felt the effect of the headwind.

It was cold and slippery this morning so we had no group ride. But this afternoon I went for a short ride around the city.
My velomobile is pictured here next to a statue outside the local oil company headquarters. As I understand it, the subjects of the statue are a group of people planning world destruction. I don't think they'd like my means of transport, as it doesn't consume any fossil fuel at all so doesn't contribute to the environmental destruction that they crave.

Today the figures were covered in ice, which reminds me that elsewhere in the world people are having to deal with the fascists of ICE, which is an awful lot worse than dealing with mere ice. Stay strong.

Still, I shouldn't complain about the weather. At least it's warm today (about 10 C !) which is a big contrast from three days ago when there was still snow everywhere.

Photo's from yesterday's OlieBollenTocht. It's an annual bicycle tour for velomobiles, held at the end of December when oliebollen are available. These are a kind of donut traditionally served for New Year's Eve in the Netherlands. For the first time ever, the tour was in Groningen. This meant that the start was less than 50 km from my home, so I went along this year (previously I've taken part in Zwolle and Utrecht but often it's too far from home so I don't take part).

Note that due to the high entry fee and limited numbers the Derby Velodrome event is unofficial, and will not earn championship points. It's a rare opportunity to ride something other than a conventional track bike on an indoor velodrome.

After the popularity of the (narrow, twisty) track at Hereford, we're doing a double-bill with the similar track at Evesham. Should be good fun for the un-faired and multitrack riders.

And we've managed to secure exclusive use of the (eyewateringly expensive) Betteshanger Park track for a weekend in September. Not a full World Championships, but we hope that some riders from continental Europe will take the opportunity to come over to enjoy the track, which with its long swooping curves and good sight-lines is well suited to faster machines.

Today we cycled all the way through America and then on to Moscow.

A huge detour due to my terrible navigation meant that we covered 26 km between these two places, which is of course a *far* greater distance than that between America and Moscow in real life.

In total, today's ride was 85 km for me (and 10 km more for Harry who continued home from our place after helping me out with apple pie).
