The bread of the dead is bittersweet,
flavored with anise and oranges,
its golden crust glazed with sugar,
almost the color of marigolds.The round loaf represen'
the circle of life and death.On top, extra dough shapes
the skull and crossbones,
reminding us of the death
that waits under our living skin.To taste the bread is to weep for
