This record sounds great. Funny thing about some of the very early digitally- mastered lps (this one's from 1982): the digital technology wasn't ideal, but labels like EMI would pull out the stops for these productions, ensuring great sound. I wonder how the cd compares.

On reading about recordings of RVW's Serenade to Music, I stumbled upon the Wikipedia page of the splendidly named contralto 'Astra Desmond'.
It states: "Astra Desmond was born Gwendoline Mary Thomson (she would later modify the spelling of her first name to Gwendolyn), in Torquay, England..."
I bet, like me, you're wondering, "but what about the 'Astra' bit?". No word.
