  1. Am watching PBS "Join or Die" Ken Burns show on #BenFranklin, and they just talked about some of Silence Dogood's wisdom. "She" talks about Harvard students as "blockheads".

It reminded me to look up something in Jean Maillet's will. He called his son-in-law "Daniel Blockhead" and I had to be sure I remembered that correctly.

It must have been the top insult of the time. Still pretty effective. #Blockhead

  2. #NameThatRevolutionary

She might have been the most influential woman of the #AmericanRevolution.
She DIDN'T have a romantic attachment with British spy John Andre.
She DIDN'T manipulate her husband into betraying his country. But she was his co-conspirator and her role was not discovered until over 100 years later.
She was born on July 11, 1760.

  3. Do you know #cursive? If so, the
National Archives wants YOU to help transcribe pension records from the #AmericanRevolution! archives.gov/citizen-archivist

WAIT: A fellow mastodonian points out this should be *paid* work. These veterans' oral histories are fascinating reading, but how about paying #Veterans or #GradStudents to transcribe them?

  4. I just got my hands on a paper copy (because I can't figure out if this outfit does digital ones...?) of "Early American Life", June 2023 issue.

It has a story on #IpswichLace and the #BobbinLace industry in Massachusetts in the #18thCentury.

  5. New instance, new #introduction. I'm a #loyalist scholar in #vastearlyamerica. I research #c18 literature, #womenwriters, #americanrevolution and now the #healthhumanities. My 2019 book was Stripped and Script: Loyalist Women Writers of the American Revolution. I work at #utampa and co-direct #honors here. Remember to #repost and not #favorite to boost scholars on Mastodon.
