Im here at #VasaMuseet for the second time and it is still amazing as hell. The size of the operation they had to pull off to take it from the sea, the amount of work to put it all together and conserve for the people to see…
And of course the size of the ship itself… It starts easy on your eyes when you are on the ground level, but grows when you get above the deck or under it. It’s massive!😍

Gustav Eriksson #Vasa konnte sich der Verfolgung durch dänische Truppen entziehen. Er begann in #Schweden Widerstand gegen Christian II. zu organisieren. U.a. warb er in #Dalarna für Unterstützung; allerdings vergeblich. Stattdessen musste er im Winter 1520/21 vor Christians Truppen Richtung #Norwegen fliehen. Der Weg nach Norwegen führte ihn von Mora nach Sälen, sehr wahrscheinlich auch nicht auf Skiern sondern mit Schneeschuhen oder Pferd. (5/n)

Endgültig zerbrach sie, nachdem der dänische Unionskönig Christian II. im Winter 1520 die adelige schwedische Opposition zu einem Festmahl einlud. Statt zu einer Versöhnung kam es zum #StockholmerBlutbad mit umfangreichen Verhaftungen und Hinrichtungen von Mitgliedern des schwedischen Hochadels. Die #Vasa (historisch #Wasa) war eine schwedische Galeone, die zu den größten und am stärksten bewaffneten Kriegsschiffen ihrer Zeit zählte. Sie trägt den Namen der schwedischen Königsdynastie Wasa (schwed. vasa). Bereits auf ihrer Jungfernfahrt am 10. August 1628 sank sie. Nach Bergung 1961 ist das Schiff heute im 1990 eröffneten Vasa-Museum in #Stockholm ausgestellt.

Vasa was a 17th century #warship, intended to be the flagship of a squadron based in the Swedish Archipelago, but she was over-designed to be dangerously top-heavy by the king, Gustavus Adolphus, sailed out before a watching crowd, caught a small breeze, flooded through the open gun ports, and sank into mud that preserved her this well.
