Time to get my seasonal #Halloween viewing rolling. Starting with something I haven't watched in years, a bit of a lesser entry by Craven but still has its moments (and Jeri Ryan, swoon), Dracula 2000

.

"There are legends of people... born with the gift of making music so true, it can pierce the veil between life and death. Conjuring spirits from the past... and the future."

Tonight's viewing: the rather excellent Sinners.

A vampire, a stripper, one night, one room. Katt Shea’s Dance of the Damned (1989) turns exploitation into existentialism.

I've been feeling the urge to revisit the iconic, 1930s #Dracula with Lugosi for a while, and since it is #DraculaDay it seems like an approriate evening to pick this from my film library (I have a nice set of the 1930s and 40s Universal horror flicks, a perfect gift from a chum years ago).

This evening's viewing distraction: The Last Voyage of the Demeter (yes, the one from Dracula).

This evening's viewing distraction: continuing my mini-season of choosing more unusual #vampire flicks from my collection, with Ana Lily Amirpour's rather cool 2014 "Iranian Vampire Western", A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night

Also, skateboarding vampire gal!

Probably brought on by the darker nights, but have had a building urge for some vampire flicks, and decided to pick out some of the less mainstream, more unusual ones in my collection.

So thinking after starting with Najda this evening, maybe A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, The Addiction, Cronos and Byzantium to the slate. I would add Only Lovers Left Alive and Near Dark, but I rewatched both of those a few months ago.

"Nights. Nights without sleep. Long nights in which the brain lights up like a big city..."

This evening's viewing distraction, unusual "arthouse horror" vamp flick, Michael Almereyda's Najda (financed by David Lynch, who cameos), with Elina Löwensohn, Galaxy Craze, Peter Fonda (as a deranged Van Helsing) & Hal Hartley regular, Martin Donovan.

This evening's viewing: the Vourdalak. Heard great things about this on the film fest circuit, so was delighted to be sent a screener to review.

This evening's viewing distraction: Jonathan Cuartas's unusual 2020 vampire flick My Heart Can't Beat Unless You Tell It To.

This evening's viewing: The Satanic Rites of Dracula, the last pairing of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing in a Hammer Dracula film.

Sadly rather weak, & the then-contemporary 70s setting really doesn't help, despite support from Joanna Lumley.

"We keep odd hours..."

This evening's viewing, a long-overdue revisit to Kathryn Bigelow's early work with the superbly lo-fi Near Dark, a very different, modern take on vampirism crossed with the Western & road movie, packed with clever scenes & dialogue

Decided on a revisit to the three Blade movies. Watching the first one this evening. Still fun, although very 90s in style, and understandably the CG effects haven't aged too well, but still a tight, effective flick, & Snipes just owns the character.
