CW: Spotted an AntiVaxxer in the wild, ranting
AntiVaxxers are both dangerous to immune-compromised individuals which include a far larger swath of the population than are usually informed about their condition AND hilarious to me because they are quite literally taking the trash out and can't seem to figure out why if diseases are "so preventable" that they are getting them.
Hmm. It is a mystery! Thoughts and prayers!

Global #COVID monitoring is crashing as BA.2.86 #COVIDvariant raises alarm
The number of mutations in #BA2.86's critical #spikeprotein is over 30, rivaling the number seen in the original omicron subvariant, #BA1, which went on to cause a tidal wave of cases and hospitalizations. The spike mutations appear geared toward evading neutralizing #antibody protections built up from past infections and #vaccinations.

Next was a fantastic pair of talks on social science #experimentation in #healthcare with Hengchen Dai and Jake Bowers at #MITIDE. Both talks try to use text messaging to encourage COVID-19 #vaccinations, to little effect. Bowers's talk, however, goes beyond the experimental effects and gets into how to ethically engage different stakeholders in study design.
