  1. Three zones most products neglect in microcopy:

    1. Loading states — a spinner says nothing. "Analyzing your data…" builds trust.
    2. Confirmation messages — "Success!" says nothing. "Your report is ready — view it here." guides.
    3. Placeholder text — should be a hint, never the only label. Disappears on focus = accessibility fail.

  2. Sometimes the challenge of UX writing is not what to write, but how we write our copy. Here is a case study of how I streamlined the UX copy review process for my team. The aim was to reduce mistakes and cognitive friction in the UX writing and design process.

Leur invention est le fruit d’un contexte précis, d’une époque où Internet balbutiait encore et où la communication écrite posait un vrai problème de ton et d’interprétation. Une solution simple allait pourtant tout changer.

  30. #UX #UXWriting #TechnicalWriting #UserExperience: "I’ve worked with a lot of world-class product teams. Experts in design, engineering, and product management. I’ll paraphrase what almost every single member of those product teams has said to me at some point in our partnerships: they are not great writers. And no combination of guidelines and rulebooks will turn them into great writers while they’re focused on being great designers, engineers, and product owners.

It’s not a company-level problem. It’s a systemic one, born at the very creation of product orgs. The books, gurus, and consulting firms that teach companies how to build and scale product orgs have remained staunchly attached to the idea that a core product team should only include three people: a designer, an engineer, and a product owner.

UX writers most often go completely unmentioned or are represented as a line on a checklist toward the end of the design process along with a design system review and legal review. But as anyone who’s worked closely with a UX writer knows, orgs that follow these models are missing out on the full impact of a writer’s strategy, expertise, and value."

  32. @matthew_d_green I’d throw in the Wi-Fi vs Cellular alert in @overcastfm — it makes me think, every time.

It shouldn’t be about allowing cellular, that’s not the desired outcome. In this situation, the user either wants to download immediately or later when on Wi-Fi.

    A better alert would be:

    Title:
    Download “[EpisodeTitle]” Using Cellular Data?

    Infotext:
The download size is [EpisodeSize] MB. Using data over a cellular network may incur additional fees.

    Buttons:
    Later on Wi-Fi (secondary)
    Download (primary)
