In #ContentDesign, context is everything.
Knowing where UI copy will appear and how it will be treated there is an essential #UXWriting skill.
The same emphasized string renders fine in the heading, but not on button labels.
Consistency is good, but some cases require contextual variants. -
Sometimes the challenge of UX writing is not what to write, but how we write our copy. Here is a case study of how I streamlined the UX copy review process for my team. The aim was to reduce mistakes and cognitive friction in the UX writing and design process.

I’ll paraphrase what almost every single member of those product teams has said to me at some point in our partnerships: they are not great writers. And no combination of guidelines and rulebooks will turn them into great writers while they’re focused on being great designers, engineers, and product owners.
It’s not a company-level problem. It’s a systemic one, born at the very creation of product orgs. The books, gurus, and consulting firms that teach companies how to build and scale product orgs have remained staunchly attached to the idea that a core product team should only include three people: a designer, an engineer, and a product owner.
UX writers most often go completely unmentioned or are represented as a line on a checklist toward the end of the design process along with a design system review and legal review. But as anyone who’s worked closely with a UX writer knows, orgs that follow these models are missing out on the full impact of a writer’s strategy, expertise, and value."

Whether to hire a technical communications specialist will no longer be a question, as it’s no longer a question to have soundtracks in films.
It doesn’t really matter how technical or complex a software product will be. Documentation as a behavior of software components will consistently happen in CLIs, GUIs, developer tools, APIs, and other aspects of software. Wherever there’ll be points of connection between humans and software, there’ll be a need for meaningful, helpful words.
