#UXDesigners—stop worrying about respect from the engineers and fight the good fight for the customer, whose experience is what matters. And by “experience” I always mean success. If your designs ensure the customer gets the desired thing done successfully then that’s a good experience and the customer will appreciate it, your company, and you. If the customer fails, then all of you, designers, engineers, executives, you’re all a bunch of bozos and nobody deserves respect. #UX

Do only #uxdesigners and #productmanagers get this?

3 things #UXDesigners get wrong about web development:

1️⃣ Devs don't need hi-def mocks (simplify the artifacts)

2️⃣ Hover interactions don't work well on touch screens (stop expecting mouse movements will activate UI elements)

3️⃣ Everyone hates the cookie warnings (stop that)

I'm not the kind of User-Centred Designer who sits in Figma/Sketch/design tool for 8 hours a day.

It is critical to understand people.

But so many UX designers are.

I am at a loss to understand why someone would do this.

I'm curious why. I'm sure it's complicated, and multi-faceted.

Before I go look for any prior research/explanation does anyone have more knowledge, explanation, than I?

Fellow UX designers: would you say you have a personal set of well-articulated best practices?

Because I don't. I'm good at what I do, but I don't have predefined personal heuristics or guidelines for how I operate. I adapt my process+approach to each situation+challenge.

Apparently people don't like that. :( A hiring manager snapped at me for not having a predefined template for how to run a UAT. And I just flubbed a question for "how I know a design is successful."

I’ve read 78 #books in 2022, hoping to end strong at 85. I only read one that was “industry-related,” although as a #writer, I think all writing helps become better at my job. My one career-related book was Design for Real Life by Eric Meyer & Sara Wachter Boettcher from the incredible publisher A Book Apart. Def rec it for #uxdesigners #uxwriters #copywriters #productdesigners alike. It reframes edge cases in an empathetic way and seeped into my day-to-day thinking as a writer and #designer.
