In 2020 the oldest grand kid said he wanted to get his ham ticket. He studied, but because of the pandemic he could never get to a test site - I suggested he try it online. I'm not sure why or what happened with that. Either way, it's been almost 4 years, and he's lost interest, so I gained a #Baofeng #UV5R I was going to give him when he passed.
I've tried a couple of times to get him to take the test. Even told him I would take him. He just lost interest. :-(

I'm not saying "drill a hole through your #Baofeng" but what I am saying is, I widened the mic hole with a tiny hand drill and my voice does not sound nearly so muffled... if you do this, you could drill through your mic... which would not be good... also dust and things... and no more warranty... on your Baofeng #UV5r etc
Edit: Actually, I did this to two Baofengs and both sound better on the other end now... wind and plosives are an issue... but I side-mic anyway

My #Quansheng UV-K5 goes back to the box. RX is very bad, no matter the antenna (my son and I did some RX testing yesterday away from city noise). Any strong signal somewhere will deafen it. AM is fake. Yes, you can flush any firmware, etc., but the radio is even worse than a #Baofeng #uv5r . Fortunately I just invested 15€ on it.

Picked up a $30.00 Anysecu UV-K5 it arrived from China a whole 5 or 6 days ahead of time.....
And it's both better, and worse then I thought it would be.
With some interesting features, like NOAA channels, and airband - And only a few dollars more then a UV-5R - this could be the new beginner radio to give to new hams. #baofeng #UV5R #UVK5 #Anysecu #hamradio #ham #radio -

Ek het onlangs begin belangstel in radio-tegnologie en vir my 'n goedkoop stel Baofeng bf-888s tweerigting radios aangeskaf. 'n Paar maande later en ek lees meer or HAM, of amateur radios op, en gradeer toe op met 'n Boefeng UV-5R.
Nou ja... mens moet liksense hê vir dié goed, verstaan ek, en nou begin ek verder te leer.
