The Trump govt. does not care about human lives (see Gaza). They may worry about the midterms, as probably wealthy US capitalists do.

As most Dems are Zionists too, the Israel lobby doesn't care about the midterms. I'm not sure whether weapon manufacturers care much, as the EU is buying more stuff from them anyway.

Ik geloof echter niet in een "kloof" tussen Trump en Netanyahu. Trump staat onder druk om de straat van Hormuz weer open te krijgen. Netanyahu tast (ongetwijfeld met medeweten van Trump) af hoe groot de steun van Iran voor Hezbollah nog is, met beperkte bombardementen op Beirut en door de bezetting van zuid-Libanon uit te breiden.

Ik vind het een grof schandaal dat de wereld wegkijkt terwijl de VS en vooral Israël ongestraft mensenrechten en internationaal recht schenden. Alleen al in Libanon zijn meer dan 1 miljoen mensen op de vlucht - een arm land dat al zeer veel vluchtelingen uit de regio opvangt. Ondertussen wordt Gaza uitgeknepen en worden Palestijnen op de Westbank geterroriseerd.

@johan : je hebt een punt, maar de hele certificaten-industrie is ziek, webbrowsers zuigen en er bestaat veel te veel misleidende informatie (voorbeeld: zie plaatje met AI-bullshit - zie Alt voor info).

Er bestaan ook Europese certificaatuitgevers - wellicht minder voor DV-certificaten. Echter, met het CA/B-forum (de "toezichthouder" op certificaatuitgevers) bijna volledig in handen van US-organisaties zou Trump ook kunnen opdragen dat browsers alle certificaten van uitgevers in "vijandige" landen niet langer vertrouwen.

De supervisor van organisaties die domeinnamen verhuren is ook grotendeels Amerikaans.

Oftewel, autonomie wensen beperkt zich niet tot certificaten uitgegeven door Google en Let's Encrypt. Ons voorbereiden op worst-case scenario's lijkt mij zeer verstandig.

Overigens heb ik eerder een oplossing voorgesteld voor het phishing-probleem dat ik aankaartte, maar dat is kennelijk off-topic (ik sloeg aan op de kul dat certificaten iets met veilige websites te maken zouden hebben, een leugen die mensen al heel lang op het verkeerde been zet).

@rinske : ja, sommige pinautomaten accepteren betalingen met mijn Triodos bankpas niet. Bij een kleine auto-onderhoudsgarage hier in de buurt kon ik, een jaar geleden en afgelopen donderdag opnieuw, niet betalen. Alles lijkt goed te gaan (bedrag gezien en pin ingevoerd), daarna iets van "betaling geweigerd".

Net als vorig jaar bij thuiskomst geld overgemaakt, maar er schijnen ook parkeergarages te zijn waar de Triodos pas nog steeds geweigerd wordt - en dan sta je daar.

Triodos was een van de eerste banken met een Visa debit card, dus kinderziektes begrijp ik, maar ondertussen zijn de meeste banken "Amerikaans gegaan" en snap ik niet waarom Triodos nog problemen geeft.

Gaza is nog steeds een concentratiekamp waar honger wordt geleden, medische zorg slecht is, hygiène niet bestaat en waar veel te weinig schoon water is, de meeste mensen opeengepakt in gammele tentjes of half verwoeste gebouwen proberen te overnachten, waar ontsnappen nauwelijks mogelijk is en waar nog elke dag Gazanen worden vermoord.

Trump's "vredesplan" is een vrijbrief voor Israël om door te gaan met hun mensenrechtenschendingen en etnische zuivering in de West Bank, en genocide – o.a. middels uithongeren en bombarderen – in Gaza, waar gebrek blijft aan alles.
