The DC Circuit Court of Appeals has 4 active justices appointed by Republicans and 7 appointed by Democrats. Yet the Republicans have dominated most of the emergency three-judge panels this year. It's numerically possible for this to happen but, as far as I can tell, improbable. Is it paranoid to wonder how random these assignments have been?

900 Department of Justice alumni have warned the U.S. Senate against appointing ex-Trump lawyer Emil Bove to the appellate court. "We are all alarmed by DOJ leadership's recent deviations from constitutional principles and institutional guardrails," the former department employees wrote, adding that Bove had "disgraced" the department. The letter, dated July 16, was signed by officials from as far back as the Kennedy administration. Tomorrow, the Republican-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on whether to advance Bove's nomination to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Circuit. He will serve a lifetime appointment if confirmed.

Wonkette's Marcie Jones takes a closer look at the MAGApublicans "Big Beautiful Bill for Billionaires," and finds much to be alarmed about:

“House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, who plans to hold a hearing focused on Boasberg and district judges next week, said he’s speaking with GOP appropriators about what he called ‘legislative remedies.’
‘We got money, spending, the appropriations process to help try to address some of this,’ Jordan said, without adding further details.”

Changes in the prevailing sound of Kpop girl groups help me understand US conservative constitutional and statutory interpretation. So a couple of years ago I would go onto YouTube and hear tropical house and girl crush shouting; these days, it's the Y2K sound.
Similarly, conservatives used to wax eloquent about "originalism" and "textualism"; now it's "history and tradition".*
In both domains, any search for an overarching explanatory principle beyond group interest is futile.
*No, Antonin Scalia is not turning in his grave, because he too was devoid of principle or decency.
