  3. Unfortunate that the administration would block a well-thought out, small expansion for fish and wildlife. But not surprising. #USFWS

"[W]hat the withdrawal does is it stops private property owner from doing wants to do with his own land – to sell it to the Fish & Wildlife Service or to offer a conservation easement. So they turned the tables on the supporters of a small federal footprint and said, 'here you're denying private property owners their alternatives.'"

  5. "For wildlife advocates, Nesvik’s nomination represents another instance of President Trump attempting to undermine the federal government from within. Throughout Nesvik’s 30-year career, he called for the Endangered Species Act to be “pruned,”" 👁️ www.sierraclub.org/sierra/can-f... #USFWS #wildlife

  10. “Weighing in at just half an ounce, black-capped chickadees rely on gathering and storing large quantities of seeds in the fall to survive harsh winters. Research shows that these tiny but tough birds have incredible memories, allowing them to remember thousands of hiding places so they can find this food later. 14. Gloomy Monday in the #GreatSwampNationalWildlifeRefuge in @newjersey

Pro tip: If you want the whole place to yourself, show up on a rainy weekday afternoon less than an hour before dusk. It's beautiful, quiet, and just a tiny bit creepy 🤩

  16. Another great video from Cornell's Ornithology Lab - this one highlights the importance of the Yukon Delta for migratory birds from around the globe.

If the area is compromised, we will disrupt migratory patterns for millions of birds!

  17. Brady Dennis: How the world’s last wild red wolves are avoiding extinction: The endangered wolves face multiple threats, from cars to climate change. A renewed push to save them in eastern North Carolina has brought cautious optimism.

"In April, the latest glimmer of hope appeared here in the only spot on Earth where endangered red wolves remain in the wild.

Five pups were born to a pair of wolves — a female known as 2413, and a male known as 2444 — marking the third year in a row that at least one new litter began life in this corner of coastal North Carolina.

The births sparked joy among red wolf advocates and the small team of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service employees who oversee the decades-long effort to restore a native animal that once roamed widely throughout the Southeast, but saw its numbers in the wild plummet to single digits by 2020."

  18. I recently joined #PasoPacifico #MARN #USFWS in search of nesting yellow-naped Amazon #parrots in a mangrove forest considered a parrot hideout. This critically endangered bird has been extirpated from most of Eastern #ElSalvador. We didn't find the nests, but last week, a community ranger (a former hunter) contacted me to say he was in touch with the poacher who knows where the nests are. We will soon meet with the poacher to discuss alternatives to poaching and their choice to help a species.

  20. @realTuckFrumper

Seeds great, yet it's deply concerning to hear that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has decided not to list gray wolves, a sacred species to Native Americans in the western U.S., under the Endangered Species Act.
Total failure of US Interior Secretary Deb Haaland; a Native American. Beyond belief and shameful.

  26. "Welcome to the extinction capital of the world."

Quite simply: As human population grows and our footprint expands, more human habitat means less habitat for endangered species. Pile on invasive species (like domestic cats) and climate change and native species don't stand a chance.

But the author almost entirely misses Section 7 in their word-fluffed up article, where critical habitat is defined as off-limit to developers. But developers rule in #hawaii
