Made the pilgrimage to Mecca—correction, the Quaboag Book Shop—this Saturday with my son. It's an 80-minute drive for us, but totally worth it.

If you live in New England and love books, this really is a place you have to visit! It's quite possibly the most extensive used book shop in New England these days. They have an incredible selection of used books, particularly old and obscure ones.

The store is in a rural part of Massachusetts, about half an hour west of Worcester. It's a truly beautiful area.

Here's what I picked up on this trip (not including the ones my son bought):

• Time and Again by Jack Finney (hardcover) - I have several copies, but it's always good to have extras!
• The Impossibles by Mark Phillip - sometimes I pick up a book by an unknown author on a whim.
• Alien Planet by Fletcher Pratt - I don't know if I've read this one, but Pratt is worth a gamble.
• The Artificial Man by L.P. Davies - Something about the cover was weirdly familiar, so...
• The Headless Cupid by Zilpha Keatley Snyder - Haven't read this one before, but Snyder's a good author
• The Secret of Skeleton Island (illustrated Alfred Hitchcock edition) - I love the Three Investigators. What can I say?
• 3 by Finney (Jack Finney) - Three short but very memorable novels. I first read this in high school. I have a copy, but another is always good to have.
• Asimov Laughs Again - I'm an old Asimov fan. Saw him speak live at Bridgeport University about 50 years ago. It was memorable.
• Creating A Genre by Robert A. Heinlein (hardcover, "Virginia" edition) - I loathe Virginia Heinlein, but I heard that these were the unedited versions so I'm quite interested.
• Expanded Universe by Robert A. Heinlein (hardcover) - same
• From Time to Time by Jack Finney - Sequel to Time and Again. I read it, didn't like it as much as the first, but I'll give it another try.

although i would like to collect older editions: this book closes my short journey to the original novels of dr. mabuse by Jacques. these stories are kind of experiments or drafts, which Jacques worked out to see, if there is anything to tell about the doctor.

I'm strongly inclined to make an expedition today to the best used book shop in New England (to the best of my knowledge). It's about a 75-minute drive away.

I'm going to see a bunch of friends this weekend, and we're going to do gift exchanges for the holidays. I always get them books. And I only give them books that I've read myself and like. When I was running a game for them I would get them books that were the inspiration for the various worlds they had explored, which was particularly fun!

The bookstore is in something like a large Quonset hut in rural Massachusetts; it's called Quaboag Book Shop. Their selection is incredible. They have substantial sections for types of books that you don't even SEE in other used bookshops. And some incredibly old books, too.

But they're not one of those appointment-only high-end book shops that costs a fortune. The prices are relatively reasonable. And I know I'll find a lot of books that will make great gifts. Their science fiction and fantasy section is simply excellent, although I wish they didn't have to double stack every shelf.

I do wish I had some more people to go with me to the bookstore, though! It would be great to have a local book gang here.

I'm guessing you need physical #books ?

I download all my out-of-copyright books from #zLibrary #LibraryGenesis or #AnnasArchive . I've found it a very effective approach.

Otherwise perhaps www.abebooks.com on which used book sellers seem to list all their books. I believe it's amazon-owned, so if anyone knows of alternatives, I'd be all ears!

I love used books, whether HC or PB -- they show signs of love and affection, and I buy them when I can.

However, I also have several first edition HC's which are inscribed by the authors, which I keep pristine -- I put them on a shelf, almost untouched, and read the ebook versions instead

How do others handle this? Do you handle and love your first editions, or do you preserve them and love the PB/EB versions?

Graham Greene wrote many things & traveled extensively in so doing. "In Search of a Character" is a travelogue from a few such trips.

Martha Grimes' "Send Bygraves" is a mystery told in poetic verse! I'm impressed!
