  1. 2/2

Based on the hard work of Adam, K6ARK I designed a PCB which does all the work of the connections and designed a case for it.

I think it looks like a Turret from the game Portal, hence its name.

But if the #RFBitBanger had a commutating mixer then the method that the #uSDX uses to demodulate #SSB, which is the phasing method using the Hilbert transform, could be used. The main problem with the #uSDX I see is that the noise level from this method without any sort of manual or automatic #gain control seems to be quite noisy (S5/S6 noise floor). ...

The major difference between the #uSDX and the ##FST3253 or similar commutating quadrature demodulator rather than a single phase demodulator. I decided not to use such a commutating demodulator because it requires a high speed analog switcher which is not necessarily easy to find in readily available parts...

I've looked plenty at the uSDX source code and it is quite possible to add something like #SCAMP to the #uSDX. The SCAMP demodulator would have filters for both in phase and quadrature phase and then select the sideband by adding or subtracting the two filters. It might be easier to port the #RFBitBanger source code to the uSDX hardware than adapt the uSDX source code to SCAMP...

  6. Not too bad from my DIY (tr)SDX at 200mw on a 20m DIY vertical at zero metres height overnight!

  7. A heartwarming message my 10 years old son left for me in my #Winlink inbox. He is doing his karate training, while I am waiting for him in the parking lot, in my car, with my antenna on top and #uSDX and laptop on my knees.
He says: Hi, Dad! You might see this message when you will be talking to your friends. Well... How is it going? With love, your son, Victor.
So, my dear ham friends, I hope we all agree it's going great!

  8. Finally got around to switching tx/rx on my CAT cable, but I still couldn't get CubicSDR to rig the USDRX+ as a Kenwood TS480.

I have it on good authority (YDØNXX/N5SSN) that the Kenwood TS480 should work, though he's running it on WSJTX. Someone else on that blog is running it as a TS-2000, I think it was, on JT8. I'm hesitant to spend much time there as it is a wordpress site.

I'm kinda thinkin' that the cable is wired correctly, because I can hear the radio click when I open the port, but CubicSDR really doesn't love it.

This is basically what I’m attempting to do with the hackrfone. I do not have the enclosure this fellow has. Mine is built into a custom ham radio cyberdeck dealio built around a raspberry pi4.

I think I’m probably about to drop the change for a Usdx Usdr HF Qrp SDR Transceiver, 8 bands, all modes, around 140$ on the amazon.

Yes it does SSB. Also SDR means I should be able to configure it up with gnu radio companion.
