#etribune #donaldtrump #uscanadarelations #chinatrade #globaltrade #tariffs U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a sharp warning to Canada over its proposed trade agreement with China, escalating tensions between Washington and Ottawa. 3. An unexpected report this morning that one of the few schools of craft brewing in North America is relocating from Chicago to Montréal.

Taking into account the challenges of moving to a Francophone jurisdiction in another country that itself is experiencing a reduction in the cap of international post secondary students, only underscores how untenable it was to continue the school in Chicago.

From the CBC report citing the school’s social media announcement:

‘A prestigious beer brewing school in Chicago — the oldest in the Americas — is moving to Montreal citing regulatory changes in the United States, and the relocation is drawing attention locally. . .

. . . The statement says “recent regulatory changes in the U.S. have made it much more challenging for international students, who have become the majority of the school’s student body, to attend classes in person.”

John Hannafan, the Siebel Institute's general manager, said the move allows the school to maintain educational quality while making it more accessible to international students.’

  7. "U.S. ambassador says Washington has to 'take a look' at airport pre-clearance, citing drop in Canadian tourism"

Um. Okay. Doesn't negatively affect me. Biggest victim will be US tourism. Generally, I'm okay with the US government introducing all the footguns it wants. Go nuts, fascist assholes. #USCanadaRelations

  8. "U.S. ambassador 'disappointed' Canadians aren't 'passionate' about their relationship with Americans"

Have you considered addressing your fascism infestation and not being complete assholes? That might help! #USCanadaRelations

  9. Geography dictates that Canada will have some kind of close relationship with the USA for the foreseeable future.

That relationship, though, should be distinguished from submission to Washington bullying and annexationism. The interests of both the UK and of progressive politics globally would be served by British cooperation with Paris to Europeanize and hence strengthen the third point of the "North Atlantic triangle". This coperative realtionship would strengthen Canada's peaceful but firm resistance to annexationism.

One immediate start could be made on a symbolic level, by postponing the Trump state visit and organizing some kind of Franco-British invitation to Carney.

  11. Donald Trump's new 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican imports unleash immediate financial burdens, complicating enforcement and collection. These tariffs, justified under emergency economic powers, could cost households around $930 annually by 2026 and challenge traditional low-value import exemptions. The U.S. Postal Service grapples with chaotic changes as the administration's operational capabilities face severe tests.
