#NationalParty pushing for an #inquiry into #Labor’s decision to resume #USbeef #imports, claiming the government ignored its own scientific advice when it made the decision.

Last week it was announced #biosecurity controls on US beef would be lifted, including beef sourced from #Canada or #Mexico & slaughtered in the US.

Nationals leader & Shadow Agriculture Minister #DavidLittleproud says the Coalition wants the #Senate inquiry to provide transparency around the decision.

There's been a lot of HooHaa about lifitng the 'ban' on US beef imports both in the US and Australia and much of it is just BS.

Maybe it's my search engine, but it takes effort to get at the truth of this msm political beat-up.

The truth is, US beef was NEVER banned. There was a biosecurity Restriction placed on beef imported from the US in 2019 because mad cow desease (BSE) was indicated in some ot the US processed Canadian and Mexican beef. US grown beef was never restricted because its sources from individual graziers was identifiable and continued to be imported.

The recent lift in import restrictions has been in train since 2019 following changes to the US beef 'provenance' process that met Australian biosecurity guidelines. That's it... Not an Appeasement of #Trump full stop.

While #MadOrangeKing is frothing at the mouth on TRuthSocial , I hope the following will put paid to those deploring the #USBeef import decision. Quoting from The Guardain Live :

Australia produced 2.5m tonnes of beef last year, of which just over one-fifth was consumed onshore.

In addition to that, the US beef industry has not currently been meeting its own internal demand. The US cattle herd is at a 74-year low due to prolonged drought conditions. In 2024 the US imported 525,980 tonnes of Australian beef to fill the gap.

Meat & Livestock Australia yesterday assessed the impact of the lifting of the restrictions to be minimal.

The potential for US beef to be imported into Australia in large volumes is minimal, given the high demand for beef in the US, the low US cattle herd, the strength of the Australian dollar, our competitive domestic supply, and most importantly Australians’ strong preference for high-quality, tasty and nutritious Australian beef.’

Australians consumers should #boycott all US products anyway. We have sufficiency in over-abundance here already. Besides we shouls all be vegetarians anyway… (sry, just sayin’…)
