If the USA's national security is imminently in danger via Tiktok - let's do this ...
1) Pass legislation in April 2024, ordering ByteDance to divest the app by Jan 2025.
2) Delay the deadline for divestiture 5 times! That is 10 months so far.
3) Line up some number of investors, 4,5,6, we are not sure how many, including Abu Dhabi-based state-owned investment firm MGX (huh!) to take over operating TikTok in the USA.
4) License a copy of the app’s algorithm - likely a violation of Chinese law
5) Re-train the algorithm - good luck with that!
6) Set the value of TikTok @ $14B - WWWHHAAATTT - that is way TOO LOWSounds like a plan! Finally, we will sign a worthless piece of paper and tell the Chinese government what we are going to do! Ya, this is going to work and protect USA's national security.

"Deals" by Trump Admin. with Law Firms violate federal spending laws notably:
1) The Anti-Deficiency Act specifically bars the government from accepting voluntary services without compensation.
2) The Miscellaneous Receipts Act (MRA) mandates officials deposit all funds received by the government into the Treasury, to prevent the executive branch from redirecting funds outside of the legislative control.In doing this the Administration is ignoring it's own DoJ that has reaffirmed these legal restrictions.

Update: Judge temporarily parts of Trump EO on Perkins Coie
Judge compared the president to the Queen of Hearts in “Alice in Wonderland,” noting that the rash queen’s outbursts — “Off with their heads!” — are entertaining to read about but “cannot be the reality we are living” under our Constitution.
Judge indicates Trump’s order likely violates the First Amendment for retaliating against protected speech and that it also likely runs afoul of due process protections and the Perkins Coie’s clients’ Sixth Amendment right to counsel.
“issuing an executive order targeting the firm based on the president’s dislike of the political positions of the firm’s clients or the firm’s litigation positions is retaliatory and runs head-on into the role of First Amendment protection.”

Law firm Perkins Coie who are the subject of an Executive Order have filed a lawsuit against Trump administration. The Trump administration is picking a fight with some of the best and brightest lawyers in America.

"Because the Order singles out Perkins Coie, it denies the firm the equal protection of the laws guaranteed by the due process clause of the Fifth Amendment.... the Order constitutes retaliatory viewpoint discrimination and, therefore, violates the First Amendment rights of free expression and association, and the right to petition the government for redress. Because the Order compels disclosure of confidential information revealing the firm’s relationships with its clients, it violates the First Amendment."

Approx. 1/3 of the remaining technology staff at the United States Digital Service (engineers, data scientists and product managers) resigned en masse today.
“We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations,” the 21 staffers wrote in a joint resignation letter ... “However, it has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments.”
