As a non-USian, what's truly heartbreaking about a second Trump administration, aside from the damage to come to US-ians, climate change efforts and international humanitarian aid (see the "global gag rule"), are the numerous tribute acts and the normalization of blatant distortion that emerged in the wake of his first term.
Deflection has always been a tool in politicking but to dismiss all criticism as "fake news" was shocking, until it became the norm among the far-right, such as the Bolsonaro and Modi governments. Trump has poisoned the well of civil discourse, making it acceptable to dismiss the credibility of facts and his opponents using ad hominem attacks and insults. It was gutting and eerily revealing of US culture wars poisoning the world to hear my Indian father accuse me of being a "liberal" for bringing up documented instances of corruption by the Modi government.
I'm filled with dread at the prospect of unrelenting media coverage of his antics (and you *know* there will be many) and balancing a desire to stay informed while keeping my faith in humanity and engaging in real conversations with people.
May this grief transform into meaningful action and solidarity!
