What I'm watching.

I just finished watching the "Urusei Yatsura" (2022) series (4 seasons).
Pretty sure this will be the end of it, since it ended with the "Kanketsuhen"/"Final Story" plot, which I believe was the end of the manga, and was the plot of the 5th movie.
The series appears to follow the manga more closely than the old series, although I haven't actually read the manga, though I've flipped through it (I have a Japanese copy).
I did like it, although looking over it, I am left with a little bit of "Why would you make this, when there's a perfectly good 196-episode original series, 6 movies, and several OVAs that cover the same material, and include extra stuff as well..?"
The new music is good though. It is HD and widescreen of course, and the animation style is pretty nice. It's quality work. I am even impressed with how well the new voice actors captured the characters.
But it does feel like it's all in the service of recreating a thing that already existed.
Surely, with all the manga out there, there is new stuff -- even new SF/fantasy/horror -- to adapt..? :anime_huh:
But to be fair, I am a sucker for anything UY, so of course I bought all four seasons on Blu-Ray. And maybe that is why. 🤷♂️

Dear anime-hashtag friends, has any of you watched both the original Urusei Yatsura from 1981 and the remake from 2022? How do the two compare?
I have been re-listening to the soundtrack of the original series, and many scenes came suddenly to mind. It was absolutely hilarious; I could compare it with Konosuba, but with ten times more craziness...

Nesta imagem lado a lado, você percebe nitidamente como a Lum de #UruseiYatsura é a cara da Shampoo de #Ranma 1/2. Aliás, pelo que eu entendi das entrevistas com a autora, o plano original era que a Lum fosse uma espécie de antagonista (tal como a Shampoo) mas o carisma da personagem conquistou tanto o público que ela acabou se tornando a personagem principal.

UYZINE was an Urusei Yatsura fanzine whose release was anti-climatic, having its access permissions not edited to allow everyone to receive a copy. On account of me bothering one of the admins too much, I managed to secure one.
Since I remembered about it recently, why not archive it? Perhaps now finally, contributors and fans can download a copy of this zine! :ablobwink:

Earlier this week I decided to start listening to Matthew Sweet's albums one a day in order of release. Inside and Earth were fun pop albums but listening to Girlfriend tonight is exhilarating. The string of great albums he produced following that is extraordinary.
Girlfriend introduced me to Tuesday Weld (on the cover) and Urusei Yatsura (in a music video), and I'll be forever thankful.

Goth Lum at a party!
This one was surprisingly difficult.
Originally only planned to draw her holding a balloon with some simple lighting.
Then I decided to give each illustration a background.
And then this suddenly was an exercise in neon lights while trying to keep the background simple. All while I kept noticing different anatomy flaws.All in all I'm happy with this piece, but it was way more work intensive than I planned for.
