More progress on the native plant garden!
When the city installed a concrete ramp to the driveway, they apparently left concrete waste hidden under the dirt, right where I meant to plant. I didn't take photos of me using a sledgehammer to break it up, because I borrowed it and I was in a hurry to return it.
But when I added a flimsy retaining wall at the bottom so I could make the ground more level, I used thin sections of waste concrete ("urbanite") from my demolition.

Had enough for today. Some of my black-handled tools are almost too hot to hold without gloves.
Got a gravel base down for flagstone. I'm experimenting with "urbanite" as well. Looking rather good I think. I thought it would look more junky mixed among the real stones. Some judicious sledge-hammer shaping involved.

A little thing I've been working on, incrementally. Made some progress in the last couple days. The first image is a couple days ago and the second is today, closer to completion. More #urbanite to install at the top, and to the left of the steps. I already started adding plants. #Mulch tomorrow.

It took two years from seed to #flower...but it was worth it. These pure white foxgloves (Digitalis purpurea f. albiflora) are gorgeous in sun or part shade [perennial!!! I am going to have SOOO MUCH seed and it's hard to find.]

I asked a guy, who was tearing up a driveway a couple miles from my place, if I could have the busted "urbanite" for #landscaping, as my site has NO rocks (unless they were brought here). I'm 72 and I really should find some helpers. Every piece gets picked up and set down at least 3 times before coming to rest, not to mention busting up the big pieces and fine shaping the smaller ones. It adds up and my knees let me know they are not thrilled. Oh, well. I think it looks nice & I love the work. Keeps me exercised while wearing me down.
