Hello Mastodon!
A quick #Introduction post from me. I'm a freshly-graduated Pākehā public historian researching Te Tiriti o Waitangi/the Treaty of Waitangi in #Aotearoa #NewZealand.
I'm deeply interested in systemic change based in kindness, community, inclusion, liberation, and solidarity. I'm particularly keen to connect with other folks similarly involved in #RegenerativeFoodSystems #FoodSovereignty #UrbanFarming #OrganicAgriculture #CommunityDisasterPreparedness #QueerLiberation #IntersectionalFeminism and leftist organising.
I'm an avid reader and amateur artist who believes deeply in the value of human endeavour, critical thought, creativity, and absurdist humour. As a result, I'm an #AntiAI absolutist.
Excited to meet other like-minded folks and learn from your collective wisdom!

Bringing the farm to the people. A grocery store/supermarket built with greenhouses on the roof to provide localmaxxed😉 lettuces to the community.
The supermarket was clearly designed with the farm in mind: skylights throughout the store offer a window into what’s growing above. “The cool thing about producing locally and on a building is you can create synergy within the building,” Leschke said. The greenhouse is heated through the waste heat of cooling aggregates downstairs, and rainwater is the primary source of water for the greenhouse and plant production. Some of the greenhouse is also powered by sustainable energy – primarily solar.

#FarmsInschools initiative
#UgandaFarm"Farms in Schools Initiative is a community-led educational program in #Uganda that integrates #agroecology, #UrbanFarming, and sustainable food production into schools and local communities. Through hands-on learning, students cultivate vegetables, herbs, fruits, and other crops while exploring #RegenerativeAgriculture , #permaculture, vertical farming, aquaponics, and small-scale livestock management. The initiative promotes food security, #EnvironmentalStewardship, youth empowerment, and practical agricultural skills, encouraging young people to become active contributors to healthier, more resilient, and sustainable communities. By transforming schools into living classrooms, Farms in Schools demonstrates that even small gardens can produce meaningful educational, social, and environmental impact while helping address hidden hunger through local food production."

Centaurea Cyanus (Cornflower)
Centaurea cyanus, commonly known by a host of names including cornflower and bachelor’s button, comes in a variety of colors, but the blue blooms are my absolute favorite.
Cornflowers are easy to grow from seed, they are delicious to pollinators and humans, and they can be used to make a gorgeous natural dye.
Today I spent the afternoon working in my community garden. It was freezing and windy, but also glorious; I love winter gardening. After pulling assorted root vegetables and tweezing saffron, I finished up by sowing cornflower seeds in my plot (allotment). Nature willing, they will emerge in late March and start blooming in May.
