  7. Camilo José Vergara, Chilean-born, New York based photographer creates Timeline Photo Series that reflect the changing environment of poorer segregated urban areas in America. These photos are of 65 East 125th St, Harlem from 1977 to 2016.

In his own words: "I feel that a people's past, including their accomplishments, aspirations + failures, are reflected less in the faces of those who live in these neighborhoods than in the material, built environment in which they move + modify over time.'

  12. This #fountain is located in the Monti neighborhood of #Rome and features sculpted hills and stars that reference the coat of arms of the area. I love how seamlessly the fountain is integrated into the sidewalk, giving the impression it has stood there, immovable, for ages. 1927 #sculpture #urbanenvironment #urbanlandscape

  13. Another uphill section and so it’s a good idea not only to separate the motor traffic from #cyclists but also #pedestrians. Cycles often bomb down here at high speeds and so that’s another good reason to have separate zones for #walkers.

  14. Further along, there is a completely motor traffic free section where the foot and #cyclepaths run along side each other for nearly 1 km. There’s plenty of room for all here.

  15. In another part, #cycle and #footpaths are clearly segregated and here they’re coloured distinctively. This is a good design and one often passes jammed road traffic at the busy junction ahead.

  16. This part is sloped upwards meaning that #cyclists are usually slower and, if nothing else, would hinder #MotorTraffic, possibly causing frustration and the urge to overtake #bikers dangerously. The solution here is to allow #cycles and pedestrians on this path. The #BusLane is only active on weekday mornings.

  17. For years and years, I thought #cycling was too dangerous a method of transport that it put me off buying a #bike. However, I’m going to share a few details around the city which, in various measures, make #biking safer, easier, more pleasurable, and more fun. We still have a long way to go to get to the levels of #CyclingInfrastructure of the #Netherlands or #Denmark but the #CityCouncil is trying do the right thing.
