  1. Spontaneous Flora of the Urban
    Areas of Tirana, three new
    species recorded for the first
    time in Albania

    "Field surveys, based on a
defined methodology, conducted during the spring-summer period of 2023, revealed a total of 262 plant species belonging to 53 families. The taxonomic distribution highlights Poaceae and Compositae as the most species-rich families."

  3. We got wonderful sunshine for the

  4. You can learn #biology even in #urbanscapes: many #plants #flower more in sunny than in shady places (and this may have consequences for the abundance & diversity of #pollinators ...).

Eg, #Bougainvillea below native to South America (#Nyctaginaceae), with small flowers surrounded by pink bracts (not petals!)

  5. This persistent little weed is a real #SuperSpecies - It can self-pollinate, produce copious amounts of sticky seeds (in tiny capsule-pods which explosively discharge seeds up to 5 meters!!) which stick to clothing, footwear, and are unwittingly dispersed by people.

  6. Creeping wood sorrel (Oxalis corniculata).

A small ground hugging herb, bearing diminutive yellow flowers.

And yet, its delicate appearance belies its tenacious nature - this species has spread so far and wide around the world - in the tropics, the sub-tropics, and the temperate zone - that its true origins have been lost to the sands of time.

  7. Bus stop botany. I won't get better if I don't practice will I?

A couple of deadnettles - white and spotted, Lamium album and Lamium maculatum
