  1. Three good things from today’s dryer adventure:

    1. The dryer held on long enough to finish my first load before making a horrible noise and giving up for good.
    2. Chose a dryer that worked without losing money to find that out.
    3. I had enough quarters for the dryer.

The downside? There’s no air conditioning in there, and the cooler outdoor air is full of smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Geeeeeeezzzzzzz.

  2. 1. Had the bathroom and kitchen professionally cleaned on Monday, including all the ceiling fans. The difference is remarkable.

    2. Had the grass mowed this morning by a local fellow. It hadn’t been cut since last September when my brother last took care of it.

    3. Coming here for two months to sort through things was absolutely the right decision. While I can’t move the heavy items, I’ve been able to bag, box, and donate many useful things to local charities.

Bonus: The cooler Upper Michigan weather has been a welcome change, though we’re expecting a high of 99°F next Monday. With no air conditioning, those freshly cleaned fans are about to earn their keep!

  3. It’s been a while since I’ve shared a photograph, but lately, I’ve been seeking out peaceful moments wherever I can find them. This seemed like a good place to start— a quiet winter day at Iroquois Point Lighthouse in Upper Michigan, standing strong against the cold. Visit my gallery to discover more.

  5. In the past, rowboats were needed to get from the island from the Lower Tahquamenon Falls in Upper Michigan. In 2021, a 420+ foot fabricated aluminum pedestrian bridge was built to enable visitors universal access to the island and better viewing of the Lower Falls.

  6. Visiting the Whitefish Point Lighthouse in December was a magical experience. The oldest active light (first lit in 1849) on Lake Superior looked stunning against the icy backdrop. Capturing this moment was truly special.

Prints of this popular photograph are available in my gallery.

In the Upper Peninsula of Michigan's Storm of the Century in 1938, some snow drifts reached the level of utility poles. Nearly a meter of new and unexpected snow fell over two days in a storm that started 86 years ago this week.

  8. Last summer, while traveling in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, I was captivated by the sunlight reflecting off Deer Lake. I turned my car around to get a closer look. There are many little roadside parks along M-28, each a hidden gem worth stopping at to appreciate the beauty of Upper Michigan.

  10. The Lower Falls at Tahquamenon Falls State Park, located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The brown color in the water is tannin. It is leached from the cedar swamps that the Tahquamenon River flows through.

The image can be purchased as an art print, framed, canvas, tote bags, yoga mats, coffee mugs or for home décor items like pillows and shower curtains. See it here-
