  6. Today in 1850, Elizabeth Simcoe died. The wife of John Simcoe, the Lt. Governor of Upper Canada, she kept a diary that is an excellent account of Canadian life at the time.
    Her diary was first published in 1911. She also painted 595 watercolours that depict life at the time.
