  1. UPMC called to follow up on the glowing review I left for one of their staff. A sharp, kind young woman who actually gave a damn.

Instead they got to hear me explain that it took five months and two denials to get the first mental health medication that's made me feel better in over a decade.

She was great. The system she works in is not.

  2. CW: CW: Celebration: Official LPC Licensure and Mutual Aid request (mentions of poverty/survival).

🚨 The Victory is Real! Next Stop: The Interview 🐺✨

It's really, really official now! I am Joan Elizabeth Burgos, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), License No. PC019845 (see attached LICENSE).

The Next Step: Because the universe moves fast, I have already notified the recruiter at my dream job—UPMC Western Psychiatric—and I have an interview with the Program Manager this coming Wednesday, January 14th.

While the license is secured, I still face the literal "cost of movement." This interview is in Wexford, PA, which is roughly 20 miles north of my current location.

The Reality: Public transit to Wexford involves a 2+ hour commute each way and walking along highway shoulders.

The Need: To arrive safe, professional, and ready to secure this career, I need to navigate these final onboarding logistics and transportation costs (Lyfts to hospitals, transit passes, and survival until that first paycheck).

Whether you gave $5 or $400, you are the reason I am still in this fight. I am so close I can taste the stable, independent life ahead of me. If you can help me cross this final gap for transit and survival, I can finally stop surviving and start building.

  3. Can anyone articulate the value of the value based care in chronic kidney disease in the era of the #4pillars? Trad #VBC was based on the premise that generic angiotensin blockade was sufficient (false) and underutilized (proven to be wrong by the #UPMC trial that demonstrated that the perceived underutilization was just the ceiling of these therapies). Since most #VBC worked with Medicare Part B (which does not cover drugs), they can not even pay for the #4pillars.

  5. A glaring example of the fact that just because a medical organization is declared non-profit absolutely does not mean that profit isn't the biggest concern.

  6. « In May 2013, Katalin Karikó turned up for work at her laboratory (…) and found her belongings piled in the hallway. “There were my binders, my posters, my boxes of test tubes,” she recalls. Nearby a lab technician was shoving things into a trash bin. ».

At #SorbonneUniversité #UPMC I had a similar experience. How many others had the same ? #WomenInScience

  7. Appointment today at the Center for Assistive Technology at UPMC Presby, downtown Oakland, Pittsburgh. They got me in and out in an hour, and during that time we tested and determined my preference for a GoChair. They're also getting me a home hospital bed and insurance will cover Everything. If you're disabled and on a Medicare/Medicaid plan, I can't recommend UPMC for Life enough. Personal health concierge has changed Everything about my standard of care. #disabled #healthcare #UPMC
