Context: since having had #Covid number 2 last spring, she has been almost nonstop sick. From a chronic cough to (what seemed like) colds to a several stomach bugs, none of which indicated she had #Covid when tested for.

She’s 21 years old. #CovidIsNotOver and now is definitely not the time to get complacent! #UpgradeYourMask and #WearARespirator such as an #N95 or #elastomeric. @novid

Today is 10 days post exposure to #Covid at work. #Lucira #NAAT #MolecularTest shows a negative!

Because NAAT offers a 95 to 99% accurate result (as long as the sample was collected properly), I feel confident that this negative result is a true negative.

No symptom development. Rigorous #N95 use, plus nasal spray & mouthwash, works ✅

Three days later and several more people are showing symptoms of #covid after being exposed to the confirmed positive case from Tuesday. 😵‍💫

Obviously, they’re still coming to work/school. Obviously, I’m keeping my #N95 on and using nasal spray and mouthwash multiple times per day. Hoping my 2x #Novavax is offering a little extra protection!

Two days into my new job and I’ve already been exposed to #covid! Good thing I always wear an #N95 even outdoors when I am around other people.

Given the fact that nobody else in my workplace was wearing a #mask or #respirator, this should be a good litmus test of the efficacy of #PPE and the other precautions I take.

Despite being vocal about how important it is to advocate for yourself (in the form of asking people to wear a #mask or #respirator in your personal space), actually doing so in real time can be intimidating. Especially when they’re both a stranger and a cisgender man 🥹

Luckily, there are still people who seem not to give a fuck and will do as you ask.

On today’s episode of Well That’s a New One: my partner has symptoms of what she believes to be a sinus issue (she’s prone to them); day 4 and we’ve both tested neg for #COVID; I have no symptoms.

At a telehealth appt this AM, the #RN told her that “wearing a #respirator doesn’t matter bc you’ll probably get COVID anyway.” Um hello? Can’t tell if this person is a secret #antimasker or is simply sick of dealing w/people’s shit 😂

Dispatch from #Brooklyn #NYC — In the last 48 hrs, I’ve seen 4 ambulances parked outside residential buildings/houses. In 2 instances, they were loading people in on stretchers.

On the #MTA bus: out of ~25 passengers, at least 5 had loud, wet coughs and/or BIG sniffling. That sounds like 20% of people out in public w/active illnesses to me!

My partner is tired of wearing #3mAura bc they make her feel claustrophobic (sensory) & don’t always seal properly around the nose.

We’re looking for a new kind of #respirator for her that has a pretty universal fit (which I’ve been told is true of Auras; I love them for me).

Tried #duckbill #N95 by Blox, but the wire is a bit harsh/tight on the bridge of her nose.

You can tell she’s trying to keep going through her spiel, but it’s not proving to be a very easy task.

Most decline the airdrop request. But it’s super rewarding when they accept, and even better when they say something about it out loud to whomever they’re with.

One major factor in my feeling isolated from the vast majority of society is that it doesn’t seem like anything is “happening” when I’m out in public. Ppl walking around, seemingly oblivious.

Not that I want to witness people suffering. It’s just another constant, real-time observation I’m forced to contend with, given everything I know about #SarsCov2 and its classification as a #BSL3 pathogen.

Went to the gym in an #N95, as always, to lift some weights. Much more crowded than usual. Several visibly sick people. #CO2 was at 2875 ppm. Two other people wearing masks—one #KN95 worn properly, one cloth fully under the nose 🤦🏼‍♀️ Ew.

Dispatch from #Brooklyn #NYC — Streets seem emptier than usual, particularly around lunchtime. The couple school dismissals I’ve seen are smaller/less raucous (fewer kids). I suspect many are at home.

Midday A/C trains have been significantly emptier, and still not many masked. There may be fewer people who are walking around sick (coughing) in public, though!

My sister texted me this tonight. One of her best friends got a negative PCR result, but a positive #RAT after their mom was confirmed PCR positive.

Another anecdote to suggest that #PCR tests aren’t picking up on #XBB #XBB15 and/or other dominant #variants as reliably, maybe? #Sars3 maybe? Fucking awesome /s

Midday C train has been packed with half+ maskless. Front/back cars tend to have fewer people (consistently) & more masked (inconsistently).

Streets seem emptier than usual, even during the usual school dismissal rush between 2:30 and 4 PM.

Rush hour C train was full-ish, many maskless.

I fully acknowledge this was at least, in part, lucky for him. I’m feeling for the do-everything-right-and-still-get-screwed folks extra this holiday season—the powers that be seem to love seeing us blame ourselves instead of them.

I just wanted to share one example to hopefully give someone else reason to believe that being #CovidCautious is still worth it, even as the rest of the world appears to be fine with spreading #SarsCoV2 like wildfire.
