Those calamities
we bring
on ourselves

@vdereks Absolutely!!! ease of use is awesome.. One of the reasons I really like #untangle... But they are asking a whole lot for an easy firewall. Those web filtering and alerts are a nice touch for sure.
Another thing I want is the ability to hook in other monitoring solutions to see my graphs and stuff. I dunno haven't spent to much time with it yet to really form an opinion but firewall sort of priced itself out for me :)

I been in the shit with #networking #homelab
I was using #untangle for a bit, but something just felt "closed" about it. It worked great and still works great. I guess I like pain.
So I went back to #opnsense! I was able to bridge all stuff of things to get it in transparent mode, got #vyos working with multi-wan and started messing with VRF so I can leak bgp routes to other VRF's.
Then I ran a speed test!! I got a 1 gbps link and only getting 200 mbps.. I think I breaking this Celeron.

Ok with all that shit I was talking about how bad the initial user experience was with #Arista #untangle.. It seems like a pretty solid firewall... I got some trial before it goes community on me or whatever, but so far it's the only one that has really worked with my #homelab #networking #selfhosting #Login #For #a #firewall #still #trash.
I need to buy a faster small machine that has a ton more ram and more cpu

Some reason I can't get my appliance connected to their dashboard.. which means I can't download the firewall part of the firewall. The fuck you mean!!! That's trash!!

Ok so #untangle has the best installation story. Really hands off approach. Then they kill it by needing to register the thing to even get firewall rules working. I mean I get it they want to capture you.. come on tho. I'm installing a firewall!! Let me firewall.

Finally found time to get back and configure my @opnsense router. @homenetworkguy_ have some great writeups on this subject. 🙏
Just added to vLans comparable to my configuration in #untangle
