Irony is when a court orders specific people off a patch of grass so the owner of that grass can return this "prime real estate" to the "entire campus community" and the next day proceeds to block all access to said patch of grass.

We added a final section to our letter about the #PalestineSolidariryEncampment at VIU that I really like.
"We lament the loss of the Palestine Solidarity Encampment — VIU’s unofficial Advanced Research Centre for Global Justice and Civic Engagement — to our University. At the Encampment, our students established a truly diverse and vibrant community, and for over one hundred days, they have been assembling peacefully and freely sharing ideas and cultures. They have been doing the work of the University. The Encampment has been one form of our students’ advocacy for universal human rights and an end to the genocide in Gaza. While it is offensive and saddening that Senior Management has decided to demolish the physical structures on the patch of grass in the quad, our students’ movement for justice remains clear and resolute."

It is expected that the encampment will cease in its current location as of today. I (speaking personally) hope very much that this is a peaceful and respectful day, as it has been for the entirety of the protest.
I hope VIU resists its own threat to call in the RCMP. And I hope this is not the end of peaceful protests on campus, for any issue.
But I fear the precedent and message sent at VIU (and many other institutions in Canada) is clear. Universities are not safe spaces for protest. The expectation that they are places for open and vigorous debate has been shattered.
At their core, Canadian Universities are just another colonial institution based around colonial confrontation and limiting of rights of people, particularly Indigenous and minorities.
The notion that VIU or any Canadian Institution is changing and acknowledging past wrongs is a whole bunch of performative nonsense. Decolonization? Ha!
It’s just more of the same. Assimilation. Like Israel razing Gaza to the ground so it can swallow it whole and destroy the Palestinian people, the assertion in Court of Canadian Universities private property rights over the Charter rights of its community and the un-ceded Territories of host First Nations, make them complicit and actively participating in Canada's Genocide.

It’s official, my employer, a public university has filed a suit in BC Supreme Court against a student who is the “leader” of the PSE protest encampment on campus. She is an international student, a visible minority… and now the target of an expensive lawsuit by a broke University against its students.

We found out a couple days ago that one of the contractors hired at unknown expense to be what seems to be the leader of the plain clothes contracted security, has training with US Homeland Security. Many of the plain clothes contractors have expired security licenses. What the heck is going on!?

Every university protest against the genocide in Gaza has specific demands.
Each group wants their university to do something specific.
At UT Austin in Texas, for instance, the protesters have called for the school to divest from Israeli weapons manufacturers. I'll say that again. The school has official working agreements with weapons manufacturers that are currently being used to kill Gazans.
If your argument against students is "they're just using this as an excuse to not to go to class and just want to cause disruption" then you are either being lied to or you are the one lying to others.
If you have not heard of the specific demands and terms of what would stop the protests...
...then you might want to question where you get your news and what other propaganda you have consumed and currently believe.

I'd just like to say I've been to enough protests of various topics that I have, in the past, seen anarchists, black block types, etc. I know what they look like.
I saw them before the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, and another time in Vancouver at a Climate protest. In both cases they were a tiny TINY portion of the crowd and stuck out like a sore thumb and have never, in my experience, ever been acting in connection with the overall group. They are their own thing.
There has been nothing of that sort in any protest that I have seen in these #Palestine protests. So any suggestion of such is, in my opinion, a pure fabrication and an incitement and dog whistle to Police to justify violence against the encampments.

Encampment at Vancouver Island University in the Commons outside the Library. Appears well organized and peaceful. About 6 tents a couple tables. Some flags and signs. I saw 5 or so people, all looked like student-age.
