Time for an #introduction! Fairleigh Dickinson University Press left social media dormant for a spell, and now it's time to think about how best to be public and promote our #authors This feels like the right time and place.

With editorial offices in #Vancouver, British Columbia, FDUP publishes #scholarly #books for the academic market. Since our establishment in 1967 in Madison, New Jersey, we have published well over 1,500 titles in the humanities, arts, and social sciences.

It seems hopeful that #Mastodon and the Knowledge Commons instance are the right place to engage meaningfully with scholarly authors and readers.

This firm works for a lot of the major university and commercial presses. I’d hazard a guess that copy editors “only managing exceptions and problems that are not yet handled by the copy editing engine” will not lead to better outcomes for authors 🤷‍♂️

AAUP did some interesting things back in the 90s, all of which desperately need updates. For example, I was just referred to the 1995 _Guidelines for Bias-Free Writing_ they wrote by task force.

And I desperately love my copy of 1 Book 5 Ways (1978, with a 1994 foreword) and would love to see a modern revision, reflecting current production and editorial processes. ( I mean computers, for a start...)

What are you reading today?

I’ve been a poetry reader for PRISM since 2020, but my involvement is early in the editorial process. So seeing the final selections in the issues is always exciting. I recognize some work in Fall 2022—that always makes me smile!

Also looking forward to diving into Therí Alyce Pickens’s “Black Madness :: Mad Blackness.” It’s been on my wish list for a while!
