  1. I keep seeing placements for #phd researchers to go on placements for ~3 months. They sound like exciting things, particularly for researchers new to the jobs market. Although not for me, I keep getting struck by the number that offer no fee.
While if it’s part of a course for taught programmes, or contributing to research, that’s fine. But blanket “come work for us for three months cause we are great” — that seems incredibly financially discriminatory. #AcademicChatter #UniversityOfYork #UCU @ucu @ucupostgrads

  6. Just been doing some prep work for a talk I'm going to be doing at our Student Union's Student Conference titled:

What is open source & why should I care? | Repairing our relationship with tech (and Europe)

I'll be covering a broad range of topics around the importance of promoting FOSS, especially in the public sector but also at a personal level: examining the damaging impacts that huge corporate monopolies have on our planet, our governments and, perhaps most importantly, us.

I'm hoping it'll help spread awareness about the benefits of open source to a wider audience so if you're at the #UniversityOfYork #UoY then come along! 🙂
