Although this incident happened in 2018, I only learned about it in a recent issue of the TLS.
If the case is fully and accurately reported, it represents an absurd and repressive abuse of authority by a university which, alas, can only fuel the hostility towards higher education currently stoked by Reform and others on the right.

Glad to see the weather is so pleasant to welcome students (back) to #UniversityOfExeter! Just hope they don’t get too used it - it’s been some combination of torrentially raining and near freezing in the last week alone. Best make the most of the sunny #FreshersWeek I guess. 😎

#SeaLevelRise #ForestFires #TippingPoints
(1/n)Thank you, Ruth.
I will read it.From all I have been reading, my aggregate "gut feeling" is that we still underestimate the rate of #ClimateChange, as well as the interconnectedness of #TriggerPoints:
“Triggering one tipping point 👉could trigger another in a kind of dangerous domino effect👈,” says #TimLenton at the #UniversityOfExeter in the #UK, the report’s lead author.
“But also 👉these tipping points in the Earth... -

It’s a hive of activity on the #UniversityOfExeter campus today. Considering the time of year, that can only mean one thing - open days are upon us!
A huge welcome to all of the potential students and their entourages. I hope you are inspired that same way I was all those years ago when I visited for the first time. I look forward to seeing some of you in the new academic year. 🙂

#ClimateCrisis #CommunicationsStrategy
(1/n)
Ruth,
not being a #Climate scientist, I know a bit of controlling and communications strategy.
I think, the issue of the highly complex issue of the interdependent #TippingPoints that #TimLenton at the #UniversityOfExeter summarized* ought to be visualized and controlled (in a management-accounting meaning) for the educated public and politicians.
I believe that a variation of the widely used...
