Exeter is doing the fashionable university thing of trashing the arts. A friend of mine who works there shared this petition on FaceAche - if you value the study of humanities please consider signing it: an easy action that might not fail to achieve anything (yes, I am a bundle of optimism aren’t I?), and that whatever the outcome tells the beancounters that understanding ourselves and our past is important, not just “STEM” subjects.

Although this incident happened in 2018, I only learned about it in a recent issue of the TLS.
If the case is fully and accurately reported, it represents an absurd and repressive abuse of authority by a university which, alas, can only fuel the hostility towards higher education currently stoked by Reform and others on the right.
