So the new University of #Alaska President makes a whopping $420,000 a year. Ex-Prez Rat Pitney's last year of salary was $395,000.
That means the new President (already a rich real estate lawyer) is basically getting a 6.3% raise. Meanwhile, as revenge for unionizing, UA is giving staff a ZERO PERCENT RAISE.
Fuck these assholes. They are your enemies. If you put stock in anything they say, you are a hopeless rube.

EviCore is also known as EVIL CORE by critics who say its guidelines are "outdated," "inappropriately rigid," and delay care (per Wikipedia).

Those fighting for a University of #Alaska staff union say they are dealing with "stagnant salaries, increasing workloads, vanishing benefits, threats to job security," etc.
But so are faculty -- and they're already unionized.
Unions are no silver bullet. In fact, they are hardly a weapon.
They segregate us into different groups, each fighting as individual blocs that are limited to whatever paltry methods the capitalist state allows.
No wonder that the head of the French employers' association once said that "we have everything to lose if the unions become weaker still..."
We're not trying to quash an incipient struggle. Rather, we are doing our minuscule part to dispel illusions and kindle that spark of resistance into something fierce.
We need to fight and win as an entire workforce. No unions to segregate us or to impose legal limits. Mass struggle!
We disagree with anyone who says that staff should learn the hard way how limited and weak unions are now.

As our comrade Anton Pannekoek once said: "you don't take a wrong turning to show other people that it is wrong, you go the right way from the outset!"

UA wants you to take 3% raises on average for the next three years. You'd need something closer to 6% to return you to your 2018 buying power.
In 2023 the avg Alaska worker got 5.2%.

With Ballot Measure 1 passing, #Alaska workers making minimum wage are going to get a 32% raise between now and 2027. Great!
Meanwhile, the #UniversityOfAlaska is proposing raises for faculty of 2-3% per year. Probably less for the vast majority of the UA workforce!

The #UniversityOfAlaska has made its counter-offer to the faculty union.
Instead of the union's proposal of 5% raises for three years, the University proposed 2.75%, 3.0%, and 2.5%.
They also made some vague mentions of increasing pay for new hires (but not old ones!?) and potential merit increases for a handful of the rest of the faculty workforce.
Presumably, the University expects it can ram a paltry deal like this through.
Can it? It's up to you, University of #Alaska workers!

We salute the #Boeing workers who just voted 96% against the contract they were presented.
In contrast, in 2022 slavish #UniversityofAlaska faculty voted 94% in favor of a contract FAR less generous than the one Boeing workers just rejected.

When the University of Alaska bosses met with the faculty union to hammer out a new collective bargaining agreement, the bosses pulled out all the stops to prevent leaks. They insisted on identity checks -- only faculty could attend the meeting. The class-collaborationist union officials capitulated, since they have no interest in representing the class outside of the "bargaining unit."
But fuck 'em all. For all University of Alaska workers and students, and for workers everywhere, we present a summary of the negotiating session -- plus the kind of leaked recording they were so desperate to avoid.

Saw one of our faculty at the gas station last night.
He was scouring the gas station parking lot with a flashlight, really focusing on the area near the air compressor.
"I supplement my income by finding and selling lost tire air valve caps," he said. "Plus, some of these air compressors have to be paid for with quarters. Find one of those every now and then."
