Doing a bit of a comparative test to see how active BlueSky and Mastodon are for the #QuizzyMonday triumvirate although I'm only posting from Mastodon and letting the fedi bridge post on BlueSky on my behalf. BS has more people (and that's not many) but Mastodon's pinnable tags and live updates still provides for a far better experience.

I see the #UniversityChallenge is (again) under attack for the elitism of allowing the over-representation of #Oxbridge on the show...

this is not a new criticism & the answer to this 'historical anomaly' is pretty easy & well know; limit the Universities of Oxford & Cambridge to one team each... like every other university (with the possible exception of the association of universities that make up the University of London).

Its not rocket science & resistance is (indeed) elitism!

I sometimes forget, watching all the #news from the #USA that the #UK can still well and truly show them how to do #hate and #outrage for cameras and for money. I am sure we invented it.

#universitychallenge Just watched the first episode of the new series (been on holiday).
First impressions -
The set is awful. Lurid and much too bright. The teams should be the focus, not the set #AmolRajan looks like he's in a bumper car. The screen for the questions means he's got nothing to do with his hands, which wave around a fair bit, showing off his expensive watch. His voice is too quiet and he asks the questions far too fast. Hopefully, he'll slow down when he gets in his stride.

We've been having a particularly thick #QuizzyMonday evening so far so here's hoping that the questions on #UniversityChallenge fall more kindly than #Mastermind and #OnlyConnect have.

Reminded by University Challenge’s question about the Great Cause and who would get the Scottish crown in the 13th century. My class studied this early in secondary school in Hawick, drawing up family trees.
