  1. WR Advisory Group: Philippines Very Risky for Investors

Based on its research covering a wide range of economic factors, financial readings and the public’s perception of governance, the WR Advisory Group finds the Philippines very risky for investors, according to a news report by the Manila Bulletin.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Manila Bulletin report. Some parts in boldface…

Investing in the Philippines is expected to be “very risky” in the coming months, driven by economic uncertainties and growing political dissatisfaction with the Marcos administration, according to professional services firm WR Advisory Group.

Based on its inaugural Philippine Political and Country Outlook Report, WR Advisory Group assigned the country a score of 10.375 out of 25, placing it at an elevated risk level with a deteriorating outlook.

WR Advisory Group President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Robin Michael Garcia said the score indicates that investing in the country carries heightened risk due to ongoing economic and political factors.

“You can invest, but just know that there are risks. So if you see a potential opportunity in this period, it’s going to be risky,” Garcia said in a media briefing on Thursday, Oct. 22.

Regarding the country’s economic outlook, he noted a strong possibility of stagflation, a scenario marked by simultaneous high inflation and elevated unemployment.

Garcia added that these risks are further compounded by national government debt, which reached ₱19.07 trillion at the end of July, equivalent to 66 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

Economic growth also slowed to 2.3 percent in the second quarter, while inflows of foreign direct investment (FDI) dropped by more than 33 percent through May.

Garcia warned that stagflation is a real possibility, particularly if the government “does not pay enough attention to economic management and economic policy.”

“The more that we think about other things, the more that the attention is going everywhere, except for solving this potential scenario,” he stressed.

Much of that focus, according to Garcia, has shifted to political controversies, including the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

While clarifying that he was not questioning the validity of the impeachment, he explained that the proceedings come at a time when Congress should be prioritizing legislative reforms to address the country’s economic challenges.

“At this time, there are a lot of economic issues. Firms care more about economic legislation and economic policy rather than mere politics,” Garcia said.

He identified politically sensitive sectors, including energy, telecommunications, mining, and banking, as the most vulnerable to these heightened risks.

The report also noted that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s performance ratings continue to decline, while frequent turnover in his Cabinet poses additional stability risks for businesses.

“Senate confidence also deteriorated sharply, adding institutional strain to an already weak legislative and regulatory environment,” the report stated.

These factors are accompanied by a negative assessment of national conditions, with 68 percent of Filipinos saying that the Philippines is going in the wrong direction, according to the report.

Let me end this post by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this recent development? Do you think the WR Advisory Group is correct with its analysis about the Philippines being very risky for investors? Are you convinced that foreign investors are avoiding the Philippines right now? Do you think the Philippines is going towards the wrong direction now?

  2. Leechiu Property Consultants Sees Lower Foreign Tourist Arrivals to the Philippines this Year

During its recent media briefing, property consultancy firm Leechiu Property Consultants Inc. (LPC) says it expects foreign tourist arrivals to the Philippines to be lower this year compared to what was achieved in 2025 due to factors like higher fuel prices and other factors, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the news report of the Manila Bulletin. Some parts in boldface…

Leechiu Property Consultants Inc. (LPC) expects foreign tourist arrivals to the Philippines to be lower this year compared with 2025 due to higher fuel costs and more expensive travel.

The number of tourists to the Philippines was flat at 4.4 million in the first eight months of 2026 compared with the same period last year after arrivals started to decline from May to August.

During LPC’s third-quarter media briefing last week, LPC senior manager of hotels, tourism, and leisure Adam Domingo said arrivals grew steadily in the first quarter, peaking at 12-percent growth in February, before momentum stalled in April and turned negative year-on-year from May onward.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz amid the Iran conflict doubled jet fuel prices, pushing up airfares and prompting flight cuts. Full-year arrivals are now expected to fall below 2025 levels.

“Unless we change how we do tourism at a basic level, foreign arrivals are likely to stay near today’s levels into next year,” noted Domingo.

He added, “The clearest evidence for what works comes from China and India. Where the Philippines made travel easier, through visa-free entry and additional direct flights, arrivals from both markets grew by more than 50 percent in the first quarter, and China has sustained that pace since February. Reducing travel friction produces results.”

The same logic shows up in the hotel pipeline, with about 70 percent of planned hotel rooms located in areas with direct international flights, which shows that private developers are building where access is strongest.

However, there is a gap as some destinations with strong private-sector commitment, such as Puerto Princesa City in Palawan province, are served by international airports that sit underused because they have no direct international routes.

“Developers are betting on these places, but travelers cannot yet fly to them directly. Government can match that commitment quickly by introducing direct international routes to these destinations. Compared with building or expanding airports, new routes can be put in place sooner and can lift arrivals faster,” said Domingo.

On domestic tourism, which earns four times what foreign travelers bring in, Domingo said, “we also need a closer look at the relocation of turboprop flights from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to Clark. Island destinations that depend on turboprops report that business is down.”

Let me end this post by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this recent development? Do you think the Philippines will end up having lower foreign tourist arrivals this year compared to last year? Do you think the national government neglected the tourism industry this year due to its hosting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and meetings at the United Nations (UN)?

  6. Prime Minister Takaichi Spotlights Strong Ties with Trump During Meeting

As planned, Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae met with US President Donald Trump in New York to emphasize the strong bilateral relations before the arrival of China’s president, according to a news report by Kyodo News. Together they discussed several key issues such as the security environment in Asia, Japan’s industry, and more.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt of the Kyodo News report. Some parts in boldface…

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi met with U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday to demonstrate the strength of bilateral relations, just a day before Chinese leader Xi Jinping arrives in Washington for his first state visit in 11 years.

During a meeting in New York, Takaichi and Trump discussed “various issues concerning China, including economic security” and agreed to further strengthen the deterrence and response capabilities of the Japan-U.S. alliance, the Japanese government said.

Takaichi told Trump that the security environment in Asia and elsewhere is becoming increasingly severe, and that she wanted to show the world “how robust our alliance is through holding another round of meetings.”

Takaichi’s roughly 35-minute meeting with Trump, held on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly, was intended to coordinate on China and align policies in areas of mutual interest, according to Japanese officials.

“Thanks to Donald’s leadership and also my own leadership, our bilateral economic security cooperation in areas such as AI, semiconductors and critical minerals has been steadily advancing,” Takaichi also said in front of the press ahead of their closed-door discussions.

Trump also praised his counterpart, saying, “She’s done a great job” and that he has been keeping a close eye on her high approval ratings.

“The industry in Japan is doing very well. The country is doing very well. It’s a very big improvement, and it’s an honor to be with her,” Trump said.

“She’s a friend of mine. We got to know each other very well over the last period of time,” he said of Japan’s first female premier, who took office nearly a year ago. “She’s going to be a great prime minister.”

The meeting was their first since March, when she visited the U.S. capital. They spoke for about five minutes on the margins of a Group of Seven summit in June in France.

Japan and China have been in a diplomatic freeze since Takaichi suggested in November that an attack on Taiwan could constitute an existential threat to her country and warrant a response from its armed forces.

Infuriated by her statement, China, which views Taiwan as part of its territory, has since unleashed a series of political and economic reprisals against Japan, including export restrictions on rare earths needed to manufacture various high-tech products.

China has shown no sign of easing tensions with Japan, with Beijing prioritizing a managed detente with Washington. The Trump administration is concerned about the knock-on impact of the restrictions on U.S. supply chains.

With trade and artificial intelligence likely to top the agenda at the Trump-Xi summit at the White House on Thursday, the officials had said Takaichi would likely use the meeting with Trump to discuss China’s export controls and Tokyo’s willingness to boost cooperation on emerging technologies with Washington.

During their talks, Takaichi and Trump also reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea and had a candid discussion of U.S. sanctions against International Criminal Court officials, according to the government.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Do you think the strong ties between the United States and Japan will eventually have a positive impact on international affairs, the security in Asia and other developments? Do you think the US-Japan alliance will push China back from locking in crucial supply chains and infrastructure projects of sovereign nations?

  8. America Sanctions Palestinian Authority and PLO Members

It is official! The United States has officially sanctioned the Palestinian Authority (PA) and members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) for failing to live up to their commitments as described in two historical commitment acts from 1989 and 2002, the US State Department announced.

As such, the so-called PA president Mahmoud Abbas has been denied an entry visa to the US ahead of the General Assembly of the wicked United Nations (UN). Be aware that the Palestinian Authority is guilty of paying terrorists and actually commits apartheid.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the entire announcement of the State Department. Some parts in boldface…

The State Department has reported to Congress that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Palestinian Authority (PA) have, once again, failed to live up to their commitments as described in the PLO Commitments Compliance Act of 1989 (PLOCCA) and the Middle East Peace Commitments Act of 2002 (MEPCA). This includes initiating and supporting actions at international organizations that undermine and contradict prior commitments in support of Security Council Resolution 242 and 338, taking actions to internationalize the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict including through the International Criminal Court (ICC) and International Court of Justice (ICJ), seeking to bypass negotiations through seeking unilateral recognition, and continuing to pay stipends to terrorists and to glorify acts of terrorism and terrorists in public pronouncements and school textbooks.

As a consequence of their failure to reform, contrary to their commitments to the United States, and their ongoing activities that undermine the prospects for peace, the United States will extend sanctions that deny visas to PLO members and PA officials in accordance with section 604(a)(1) of the MEPCA. The Department has maintained the standing waiver for personnel notified to the PLO Observer Mission to the United Nations as was the case in the Department’s prior determinations. It is in our national interest to impose consequences and hold the PLO and PA accountable for glorifying terrorism.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Do you think this latest move by the United States will impact the PA, the PLO and their international partners significantly? Do you think the other nations that took sides with the Palestinians and normalized themselves with Islamic terrorists will think twice about how they do diplomacy? Are you convinced that the Palestinians have a religious and ethnic commitment to terrorism?

  9. What Does Trump’s Deal With Iran Mean For Israel?

Following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a deal reached with the Islamic terrorist regime of Iran, one has to wonder what it means for Israel which itself was not a party to the agreement.

In recent times, there was tension between Trump and Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the Jewish state is in the middle of a conflict with Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon. Hezbollah clearly showed the US-Iran negotiations did not matter as they kept on firing rockets at Israeli soldiers and the residents of northern Israel. Recent developments in Israel were covered by CBN News in connection with the US-Iran deal.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the CBN News article. Some parts in boldface…

With great fanfare, President Trump, on his 80th birthday, announced that a memorandum of agreement with Iran had been reached in Islamabad, Pakistan.

On Truth Social, Trump posted that he had authorized the end of a U.S. naval blockade against Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz.

“Congratulations to all!” he wrote. “Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”

The agreement was confirmed by officials there that “both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon,” adding that mediators will this week facilitate meetings to “lay the foundation for the technical talks.” A signing is expected in Switzerland on Friday.

Reaction was slow in coming from Iran, although state TV displayed a banner boasting, “US was forced to sign an agreement to end the war.”

Israel, which was not a party to the agreement, has been slow to react as well officially. Earlier on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated President Trump on his birthday. However, U.S. media reports indicated that Trump was furious with the prime minister for attacking a terrorist stronghold in Beirut over the weekend, despite continued Hezbollah rocket and drone launches against Israeli troops and residents of northern Israel.

One Israeli opposition party is blaming Netanyahu for what its leader described as a terrible deal. The leader of the Israeli Democrats Party, Yair Golan, was quoted in The Times of Israel as saying, “Tremendous military achievements won through the courage of our pilots and the blood of our fighters were erased, while Netanyahu stood aside – weak, ill, isolated, and lacking influence.”

Israelis won’t be comforted, either, by comments from United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, who has frequently been hostile toward Israel. He praised the deal, saying, “I warmly congratulate the United States and Iran for having reached a peace deal that provides for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as well as a framework for further negotiations.”

One U.S. supporter of Israel, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), welcomed the opening of the Strait, but he added a caveat, according to a report by JNS News, stating, “I will be watching closely the ensuing negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program and other matters.”

Graham added, “I am somewhat concerned that Iran’s view of the agreement seems different than what the American negotiating team is claiming. Under our law, any nuclear deal with Iran will be sent to Congress for review and a vote.”

An Israeli source told The Jerusalem Post on Monday that Israel will not withdraw from its security zone in southern Lebanon, despite Pakistani claims that Lebanon was included in the memorandum of agreement ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Do you think the US-Iran deal Trump announced will compel Hezbollah to stop attacking Israel? Are you convinced that Israel made the right decision to keep its presence in the security zone in southern Lebanon? Do you suspect Pakistan is lying about the details of the US-Iran deal? Do you think the United States will be able to get all the enriched uranium of Iran to ensure it will never produce nuclear weapons?

  10. Philippines’ Bid For United Nations Security Council Seat Rejected

The Philippines, which previously supported the creation of a Palestinian state and discussed cooperation with the Islamic terrorist regime of Iran, badly lost in its bid for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) as only forty-nine nations voted for them, according to a news report by GMA News. One hundred and forty-two other nations chose Kyrgyzstan over the Philippines during the fourth round of voting.

It should be recalled that no less than Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., himself told the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) last March that the Philippines is a voice for principled peace and expressed confidence that the nation has an advantage in its bid for a UNSC non-permanent seat.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the GMA News report. Some parts in boldface…

The Philippines failed in its bid to attain a seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) as a non-permanent member.

Zimbabwe, Austria, Portugal, Trinidad and Tobago, and Kyrgyzstan were named new members of the UNSC, which can issue legally binding resolutions that may include military action, economic sanctions, and deployment of peacekeeping operations.

A fourth round of votes was cast for UNSC members to choose between the Philippines and Kyrgyzstan, in the Asia-Pacific Group, after they failed to reach the required two-thirds of the majority.

Kyrgyzstan eventually achieving the necessary two-thirds majority and securing its first-ever Security Council seat by 142 votes to 49.

The remaining 10 members are elected, with five new members joining every year. This year, one comes from the Africa Group, one from the Latin American and Caribbean Group, one from the Asia-Pacific Group, and two from the Western European and Others Group.

Zimbabwe will replace Somalia and Trinidad and Tobago will replace Panama, while Portugal and Austria will replace Denmark and Greece. Kyrgyzstan will replace Pakistan.

Bahrain, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Latvia and Liberia will continue to serve as non-permanent members of the Security Council until the end of 2027.

The Permanent Members are: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The rest of the non-permanent members are: Bahrain, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Latvia, and Liberia.

Last March, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. made a personal pitch for the Philippines’ candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations (UN) Security Council, saying the country is ready to contribute as a voice of balance among the world’s nations and as a “voice for principled peace.”

Marcos Jr. expressed confidence that the Philippines has an advantage in its bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

As a concerned citizen, I do not like what the Philippines did at the wicked United Nations and on other international affairs. Apart from supporting the creation of a Palestinian state, their diplomats formalized a mechanism to boost bilateral cooperation with the Palestinians (which practices apartheid). When the ASEAN Summit was hosted in Cebu province, the Philippines acted as if it was a highly credible player on global diplomacy (click here and here). The Philippines deplored Israel’s strike on Qatar which made them look like they were defending the Hamas terrorists in Doha.

The loss at the UN is the latest setback for the Philippines and 2026 has been a pretty bad year so far. Apart from diplomacy, the Philippines is experiencing weakening economic growth, rapid inflation and it remains very vulnerable on energy as it imports most of its oil from the Middle East. The warning signs about the national economy are only growing.

Let me end this post by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this recent development? Do you consider the Philippines a highly credible participant in international affairs? Do you think the Philippines deserves a seat at the United Nations Security Council under the current administration?
