So - question to all my #techie friends: do you have an #UPS, and if so, which one (or ones if multiple)? With installing my new system and a DAS with 43T+ of spinning rust drives, I think it's important that I have an UPS again. (I have an APC, but it hasn't been functional for a long time -- the battery died, and I've never been able to replace the battery).

I'm really interested in which one(s) you'd recommend from a Linux standpoint. I want to make certain I get one that can cleanly shutdown my system if needed.

I was very happy with the supercap-based #Juice4Halt :raspberrypi: #RaspberryPi hat, but my new home server will be a much more powerful beast (GMKtec K8 plus) and would rather require 19V ~50W or so from a UPS. Seems there aren't any supercap-based UPSs on the market!? 🤔

I just need like a minute or so for safe shutdown and have basically no space for a UPS.

3rd #poweroutage in 3 days... I like my UPSs #UninterruptiblePowerSupply but the more it goes, the more it gets closer to a shutdown.

That is not even considering the few major outages linked to the huge forests fires that required to hookup the mobile generator.

Usually we see one or two outage a year in here...

I have a bunch of #amateurRadio equipment in here that need to stay up to sustain operations. Eventually many of those will be moved to a generator equipped site, but meanwhile a solution has to be found.

Seeing the grid being less reliable than usual makes me wonder if I need to improve things... I was already considering for next year with the new garage some #batteries with a small setup of #solarpanels and maybe a small #standby #generator as a fallback to charge the batteries when #solar is not enough.

I now start to consider the generator in a very near future to power important equipment and will be relocated when the construction of the new garage will be done. Solar panels and batteries will come ASAP when their new spot will be ready!

I am looking for a switch or relay to switch on command a mains AC power from mains to a battery-based backup AC power output. The switch should be able to be controlled/commanded from a raspberry pi or similar. The application is to switch the power to a large freezer and/or 500W dehumidifier on command from app in pi.
