Artificial intelligence is not yet commonplace in occupation. The Konstanz AI study from the Future of Work Lab at the #UniKonstanz shows that about 38 percent of employees in Germany use AI. Only about half of them received training from their employer. This is the finding of the third wave of the Konstanz AI study, for which a total of 1,105 employees were surveyed in May 2026.

The data show that the adoption of AI is frequently driven by employees rather than being strategically managed by organizations. Many employees are thus acquiring hands-on experience with AI on their own initiative, while companies are often still catching up in terms of governance, secure infrastructure and workforce training.

"In many organizations, the major AI revolution has not unfolded as a planned transformation process so far", explains Florian Kunze, head of the study and professor of organizational behavior at the University of Konstanz. "Instead, many employees are experimenting with AI, while employers are still lagging behind when it comes to establishing clear policies, providing training and implementing secure AI solutions".

The European Research Council (ERC)​ has awarded a Starting Grant of nearly 1.5 million euros to #UniKonstanz physicist Richard Schlitz for his project: "Magnons and Antimagnons: Engineering Dissipation to Explore the Limits of Nonequilibrium Magnetism" (MERLIN).

The project starts in January 2027 to investigate how magnons can be specifically influenced and harnessed through their interaction with electron spins in a non-equilibrium state.

#UniKonstanz molecular biologist Elke Deuerling receives the Sir Hans Krebs Medal 2027 from the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS). The award recognizes her outstanding contributions to molecular biology and her pioneering research on proteostasis. As part of the honour, she will deliver the Sir Hans Krebs Lecture at the FEBS Congress 2027 in Riga, Latvia.

This distinction adds to a series of recent recognitions that Deuerling has received, including the Neupert Medal (2025), election as an EMBO member (2023), and election to the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina (2026).

Researchers from the #UniKonstanz and the HTW Berlin University of Applied Sciences analyzed around 3.7 million menu options from 340 German university canteens. The results show a fundamental shift in menu options, an important part of the food environment.

Between 2015 and 2024, especially the proportion of vegan main dishes increased significantly. Surprisingly, the expansion of vegan options was accompanied by a stronger reduction in vegetarian options than in those containing meat.
