Very few games scratch that Fire Emblem itch, but Unicorn Overlord totally does, even tho' its mechanics are vastly different.

Sadly, it's not on PC/Steam, but it's available on PS5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch 2 for example.

That being said, the Fire Emblem franchise hasn't been on any other platforms than Nintendo ones.

I got Unicorn Overlord on my PS5 and I'm thoroughly enjoying the experience so far.

Just bought #unicornoverlord on sale yesterday, the only reason being that I heard about this game on two completely different sources in the manner of two days. From #atlus #vanillaware only the former is known to me. #NintendoSwitch2 #jrpg

Finished with Unicorn Overlord. I enjoyed it, but it's a bit too long for its own good. Really liked the war setting and all the characters, and I can only dream of what Vanillaware could do with the Suikoden formula.

I love the prose in the dialog of this game.

I think Final Fantasy Tactics tried doing something similar (at least the PSP version), and it came off phony and pretentious to me, but I really like it here.

#Vanillaware’s previous game, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, felt like an absurd auteur gamble where every bet hit a jackpot. Unicorn Overlord feels like what happens when only some of those risky choices pay off.

The biggest success for me is the tactical combat, which is really in a league of its own. It takes some inspiration from Fire Emblem in the way that calculus takes “some inspiration” from algebra.
