When I first stumbled upon this playing on KCMU in Seattle in 1984 while I was a senior in high school. It absolutely changed my understanding of powerful music.

A track that was either better than expected or completely unanticipated.In the late 90s I picked up an album on CD at a church rummage sale—The First Band On The Moon by the Cardigans. I recalled their big hit single on it called Lovefool, so I thought "Why not?" The song that really caught me by surprise was their cover of Black Sabbath's Iron Man. It was such a fresh and interesting take on a song that I had never cared for.

I feel like it's kind of silly to use the word "unexpected" where Mike Patton is concerned, but his work with the Avett Brothers did catch me off guard.

I heard #Kingcrow for the first time in March 2016 at #BambiGalore, #Hamburg. They were co-headlining with #Votum, who I knew and wanted to see. But Kingcrow turned out to be really amazing. They mostly played songs from Eidos and In Crescendo, though I don't remember the setlist. Those are now my favourite albums of theirs, though.

This week's Tune Tuesday has a theme of "Unexpected Delight" - tracks that were better than expected or entirely unanticipated.
For me? The Monster High movies have music that is far better than it has any right to be considering they are cartoons or movies entirely designed to sell dolls by Mattel.

This song got fairly big in the early 2000s I believe. An electronica/dance song. I bought the album and there was an untitled track at the end that was an acoustic version of the original song that was completely unexpected and quite good. Posting links for both versions for comparison.

I'm not thinking of any tracks for the #TuneTuesday theme #UnexpectedDelight so I'm picking a group - Scrapomatic. I got into Mike Mattison after seeing a Derek Trucks show in a tiny bar. I got the debut album and was surprised how much I liked it. Paul Olsen is a great songwriter.
This is not from that debut album (I can't find it for streaming), but it's a favorite.

BBTS is not a band I enjoy that much.
I do love some metal growling but I have limits, a limit that BBTS tend to cross way too often.

Happy #TuneTuesday! I love this week's theme, it's #UnexpectedDelight.
This got me thinking about unexpected collabs, and the one that popped into my head was Big Naughty and this amazing collab with Lee Chanhyuk. Definitely one of my favourite surprise releases of 2025!

For this week’s #TuneTuesday im offering up Cian Downing as my #UnexpectedDelight. Released on Heavy Soul, he is being talked about as the new Billy Bragg. Well, I was intrigued, and I have to say pleasantly surprised. This is akin to Bragg’s more upbeat later tunes, but the unmistakable influence can definitely be heard.
