Found a key finder as it's really tough to find it in the registry. Got the key ending it what settings said the last 5 symbols ended in. Windows said it doesn't work because they deactivated it, which is unethical to say the least.

I have now completed transferring all my applications from #DigitalOcean to #Scaleway. Still got a couple minor things to sort out, but the bulk is done.
Until 2 weeks ago, I have never had any problems with DigitalOcean. They provided good, stable, cheap, not-exactly-big-tech cloud services that I have used personally and professionally. I have a problem with their #government – personally, not speaking as a professional here.
DigitalOcean is located in the #US, which leads to two problems that can no longer be ignored:
1) the introduction of the #CLOUD act gives US governments rights to spy on any service provided by a US-owned company, even if that is hosted elsewhere. This was a problem when enacted in 2018, and has become even worse in 2025 when the US demonstrated it is willing and able to abuse this power for #political reasons.
2) by paying for US cloud services, I am indirectly supporting the US. It is entirely #unethical to support the US, a #hostile #regime.
Sure, this is not directly attributable to DigitalOcean; they may be as much a victim of the US government as anybody else. Sucks for them. Maybe do better at voting next time and elect a government that doesn't actively drive away customers?
Oh, and two weeks ago, somebody at DigitalOcean rolled around in a pile of s̵h̵i̵t̵ #AI and smeared big stinking globs of t̵u̵r̵d̵ #LLM all over the cloud console, making it much worse to use. This is absolutely not a point in their favor, though #DigitalSoverignty is the main driver for me leaving. -
I know #AI is all over the place, and I know that for #developers and especially #indie developers these tools can seem helpful. I know many use them but minimize the use cases, or say they couldn't have produced something without AI help.
However I cannot in good faith fund, promote, recommend or support any project that knowingly uses #unethical tools in it's production. You all know the ethical case against AI, I don't need to reiterate it.
I love a lot of you, but this is my red line.

Articles like this expose Si Valley's savage disregard for the user. And of course, codebro users who love their illusion of 10x productivity with LLMs couldn't give two shits about ethics or the planet and god forbid the poor.

You may have seen the story this week about an "AI" (LLM) bot that opened a pull request against the Python #matplotlib library. When the request was closed, the story was that the #bot posted aggressive condemnations of the maintainer(s) in the thread, particularly Scott Shambaugh, and then posted an article to a blog attacking him.
There's a lot of speculation about how much of that action was driven algorithmically vs manually instructed by the bot operator.
Anyway, so far so interesting. Lots of online media coverage of it, because it was novel.
But then, Ars Technica published an article about it. And Shambaugh read it, and posted that the second half of the article contained alleged quotes from him that he never said. The article appears to have been "AI"-generated, without any acknowledgement of that fact, which is not good for Ars' credibility.
Worse, Ars then quickly pulled the #article - silently. No mention of it left, no #apology to Shambaugh, no note to the readers of what they'd done.
That is absolutely #unethical in #journalism. It is unforgivable.
Ars was once a technical site with additional coverage of science and other geek-adjacent topics. Then it went commercial, was bought by a huge publishing conglomerate, and became a lot less technical.
But this is a slide too far. Unless they fix this, quick, I won't renew my subscription.

1. Obviously #XMR doesn't fluctuate extremely hard (it does have some peaks, but for the most part, it's pretty stable)
2. #Monero is in fact less harmful than all the other #Shitcoins by virtue of being anti-ASIC and running best on consumer devices.
3. All #capitalism is #unethical, but Monero being the closest to #DigitalCash makes it better than any #Shitcoin and allows #Sexworkers and others #discriminated and #debanked to recieve money.

I've been only able to read this IT note today due to band with constraints. It read like a Stephen King short. Horrific!
IMHO, In my humble opinion, the company involved used tactics that I can describe as blatantly criminal.
I have some stories and I may talk about one in another post, using similar of obfuscation techniques
You would be wise to read this story at least twice.
