  1. Online keeps hammering X despite threat

The US is not backing down from its fight to technology researchers who monitor safety risks on the biggest online platforms.

In July, a judge blocked as an policy that the US relied on to weigh whether to and deport people who flag illegal or harmful online content as national risks. In his announcement of the policy, explained that by targeting a list of researchers—which he stood “ready and willing” to expand—the policy supposedly served to prevent foreign nationals from manipulating digital town squares and Americans.

  2. Online #hate #researcher keeps hammering X despite #deportation threat

The US is not backing down from its fight to #deport #noncitizen technology researchers who monitor safety risks on the biggest online platforms.

In July, a judge blocked as #unconstitutional an #immigration policy that the US relied on to weigh whether to #detain and deport people who flag illegal or harmful online content as national #security risks. In his announcement of the policy, #SecretaryofState #MarcoRubio explained that by targeting a list of researchers—which he stood “ready and willing” to expand—the policy supposedly served to prevent foreign nationals from manipulating digital town squares and #censoring Americans.

  3. ‘Tower dump’ warrants ruled #unconstitutional
A "tower dump" involves #cellphone companies providing #lawenforcement with access to the time and location data of all mobile devices connected to a cell tower
"That is an unreasonable search under the #FourthAmendment," judge concluded
The order repeatedly referenced the Supreme Court's recent decision in Chatrie v United States, in which the majority held that #geofence #warrants require constitutional #privacy protections

  4. So it’s gone from #immigrants to the #LGBTQ and #women to #kids to…now…well, even right down to everyone and *anyone* who has *anything* to say about the GOP *online*.

Sorry, the Gestapo would like to keep a file on you.

You’re about point out how this is #unconstitutional, prima facie, as it obviously is — hello, the First Amendment.

True, but also…well, this is how #fascism works.

It doesn’t just break the law, it #perverts the law. The Nazis were masters of this. They didn’t break the law to annihilate the Jews, they changed it so doing was not just perfectly #legal, but something you were #obligated to do.

So moments like this are trial balloons. They’re *not jokes* and they’re *not stunts*. What they are is #practice.

Sure, this particular variant of the bill might not pass muster. *But the fascists don’t give up*.

They just try again and again until, at last, something gives. That something usually gives because they #stack the #courts, and #corrode the #justice system from the inside.

They tried for half a century to get rid of #Roe — and eventually, with the help of a Supreme Court so corrupt it’d make a banana republic blush, they #succeeded.
