Welt-Aids-Tag

Am 1. Dezember ist Welt-AIDS-Tag. Erstmals 1988 von der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) ausgerufen, wird dieser Tag für Awareness und Solidarität mit HIV-positiven und an AIDS erkrankten Menschen jedes Jahr von UNAIDS unter ein bestimmtes Motto gestellt. Das diesjährige Motto lautet: Let Communities Lead. Als Zeichen der Solidarität mit HIV-positiven Menschen gilt das Symbol „Red Ribbon“.

Aufgrund der medizinischen Fortschritte und der Verfügbarkeit von wirksamen antiretroviralen Therapien, lässt sich das Leben mit HIV in Österreich gut und gesund gestalten. Arbeit, Beziehungen, Elternschaft – das alles ist mit einer wirksamen Therapie normal und selbstverständlich. Die Minderung der Lebensqualität von HIV-positiven Menschen durch Abwertung und Diskriminierung verursacht im Jahr 2023 viel größere Probleme als die tatsächlich geringen gesundheitlichen Einschränkungen, die sich aufgrund einer HIV-Infektion unter wirksamer Therapie ergeben können.

Dazu Mag.a Andrea Brunner, Geschäftsführerin der Aids Hilfe Wien: „Die Solidarität mit HIV-positiven Menschen ist nach wie vor dringend notwendig, denn sie erfahren auch heute noch Diskriminierung und
Ausgrenzung.“

Die Aids Hilfe Wien ist Teil des No Hate Speech Komitees.
