  4. Check out this huge dyke!

    Cutting right through the permian-era mudstone of the coastline, the contact point is absolutely fascinating with a chilled margin, bleaching and uplift of the mud adjacent to the intrusion. (If you look closely, you might even be able to see the worm tracks in the mud)

    And just to top things off, a large glacial dropstone right next to it all - Australia used to be much further south at the time.

    Finally getting around to writing up about this site near Ulladulla on the NSW south coast, near the edge of the Sydney basin. Will have a few more posts to follow below!

  6. More adventures in geology! Visited a site down near Ulladulla on the NSW south coast - near the edge of the Sydney Basin.
    The Permian-era shales outcrop all along the coastline and are just full of spectacular marine fossils!
    I'll do a write-up on the site geology a bit later, but here are some of the gorgeous loose fossils I came across on my walk: Bivalve molluscs, horn coral & a sea lilly (crinoid) stem.
