Lots in the UK media recently about the NI tax rises being the cause of many industries woes... Without mentioning other cost increases, changes in lifestyle (people are drinking less!) or that profitability is amazingly less affected...
The hospitality report referred to here doesn't mention that the rate of pub closures is actually declining, the industry as a whole is seeing 10% growth, and areas like catering are growing

CW: Tax return info
Heads-up for any UK self-employed folks who (like me!) tend to leave it to the last minute to do yr tax return: there's a new rule this time round, whereby business accounting now has to line up directly with the tax year. I think I did know this but I'd forgotten. If you already counted your business end-of-year as 31 March or 6 April or some date in between, then you're already sorted.
Just mentioning it because I'm glad I found out tonight & not tomorrow!

I think Tax Justice UK are right when they say as part of addressing chronic Government underfunding we need:

Interesting historical note: "ND regime is not now, and has never been, about attracting migrants. Remittance basis (inc tax benefit to NDs) was a tax *deferral* scheme from colonial times, til the cotton and sugar came onshore"
