Sharing a (dusty) portion of our Ukrainian bric-a-brac as we prepare food and get ready for a picnic today to celebrate #UkraineIndependence (yes, we're a day early).
We're expecting about 60 people, including roughly 1/3 descendants of original Ukrainian settlers to this area, 1/3 folks who have moved to the area since, plus 1/3 new Ukrainian arrivals since the beginning of the horrific ongoing war.
Fun fact: my wife was living in Kyiv in 1991 when independence was declared.

Igor Yukhnovsky, the first Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine in 1992-1993, has passed away at the age of 98. He was a Ukrainian theoretical physicist, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and co-founder of the Institute of National Memory. He is credited with the idea of the referendum on December 1, 1991, which solidified Ukraine's independence. #IgorYukhnovsky #UkraineIndependence
