I voted earlier in the #UKLocalElections. Got up to see if my vote made a difference to anything, and although my area hasn't declared yet it looks to be a great night for democracy nationwide¹.
The overall count though, a predictable lurch to electing right wing xenophobic *twats*. Now, 3:30am, they've had more councillors elected than all the other parties added together.
¹ Trying a bit of sarcasm with this, voters will be thinking it's democracy in the literal sense.

For the first time ever in my life, I’ve just voted at a UK polling station on a Saturday!
This is part of a trial in some areas to see what happens if you allow voting on the weekend before an election.
In my particular case, this is a local election for a Borough Council, which is going to be abolished and replaced with a unitary authority next year.
In any case, I hope the trial is successful and allows for more innovations to make it easier for people to vote.
