  3. What country, if not the planet, have people been living on? It was obvious to a blind person #RefomUK was going to dominate the local council elections. True, Libs and Greens are doing well, but there's going to be a change, which is what people want.

  4. I voted earlier in the #UKLocalElections. Got up to see if my vote made a difference to anything, and although my area hasn't declared yet it looks to be a great night for democracy nationwide¹.

The overall count though, a predictable lurch to electing right wing xenophobic *twats*. Now, 3:30am, they've had more councillors elected than all the other parties added together.

¹ Trying a bit of sarcasm with this, voters will be thinking it's democracy in the literal sense.

  5. I have voted twice. Okay not really but I voted once for me and once as proxy for someone.

The officials got most excited as they don't get many proxies. In fact when they produced "the proxy list", it had just the one name on it. 😂

    Voted!

But what a palaver: show polling card, they ask for name and address (even though these are printed on the polling card), show ID ("what kind of ID is this?" when I give them my bus pass), write down voting ballot numbers next to my name (secret vote; what's that?), go and vote (but only one person at a time although the stand caters for 4 at a time with dividers for privacy).

  7. Hello those in the UK who are going to the polling stations today. 👋

Please strongly consider voting for a Green party candidate.

We need to stop BNP/Ukip/Reform Ltd (or whatever their name is now) in their tracks and as the media are heavily attacking Polanski, it seems the Greens have more potential than they would like us to know.

  8. For the first time ever in my life, I’ve just voted at a UK polling station on a Saturday!

This is part of a trial in some areas to see what happens if you allow voting on the weekend before an election.

In my particular case, this is a local election for a Borough Council, which is going to be abolished and replaced with a unitary authority next year.

In any case, I hope the trial is successful and allows for more innovations to make it easier for people to vote.

  9. This is an interesting "quiz" that matches your views to current policies and parties. It takes about 15 minutes

The current aggregate results are grim😨

  10. Dammit. Gloucester was 1 seat short of being a Lib Dem strong hold. Never thought I'd be glad my little area voted for the Cons again, but good to see us surround by a sea of yellows and greens! 🗳️ #UKLocalElections #UKCouncilElections #UKElections #Gloucester #Gloucestershire #FuckReform

  11. On the topic of #UKLocalElections am I the only one who finds the concept of the metro mayor/"supermayor" deeply weird?

In a country with a strong parliamentary tradition we have:

    1) presidential-style figures we call mayors.
    2) without the equivalent of a London Assembly to act as a balance.
    3) sometimes covering deeply rural areas (a Greater Lincolnshire one is coming!).
    4) with powers that ordinary councils would have in most countries.

They're popular but really odd imo.

Very pleased that the Green party has done so well in my home city of Worcester, holding the balance of power. Let's go!

  15. Seeing the overall borough election results makes me think there is some hope. Seeing the results for my ward makes me distrust my neighbours.
