  1. Back at work, slightly sunburnt, mentally still in Watlowes.

The Dales looked incredible this Bank Holiday. And with a provisional UK spring temperature record broken yesterday (34.8°C, Kew Gardens), apparently half the country agreed.

Stay hydrated. Reapply sunscreen. Wear a hat. 🌞

How was yours? And what's the half-term plan?

  6. This summer at Barry Splash Pad a man paid for £80 of ice creams to be given to the people for free.

What a wonderful act of kindness on a very hot day - and the community was really grateful.

What kindness have you seen in your local community this season?

  7. Well that's a relief, it would be terrible if it felt like 31° as well 😅

  8. When #Scotland will get 'very severe thunderstorms' during #UKHeatwave this weekend

The weather looks set to be scorching for most of us across the next few days, but there are concerns in some areas.

"The summer weather has finally arrived in June after a damp and dreary start to the month. Things are expected to heat up over the next few days and Brits will be basking in sunshine this weekend.

"Some parts of the UK are expected to have an official #heatwave, where they enjoy three consecutive days meeting or exceeding the temperature threshold for their area.

"But even with all this positivity, the Met Office has issued a worrying warning that things could turn ugly for some of us on Saturday evening, June 21. Far from enjoying all-round sunshine, parts of Scotland could be set for 'very #SevereThunderstorms'.

"Meteorologist Aidan McGivern made the prediction during his weekend weather update, where he said Scotland's southern regions could face 'large thunderstorms, frequent lightning, large #hail, heavy rain, and gusty winds' tomorrow.

"In a video posted on social media, Aidan spoke about the heatwave and the potential for some #ExtremeWeather. He said: 'This Saturday is the Summer Solstice; peak sun strength. But also, in eastern parts of the UK, peak heatwave, with fresher air arriving through the day from the west.'

" 'But as that fresher air collides with the plume of heat coming up from the south, we're likely to see some very severe thunderstorms in places.' "

  13. Thinking of replacing all the plants in the garden with cactus. #UKHeatwave

  14. The large and very slow moving (1 week satellite loop!) cut-off low pressure system to the west of Portugal that has been maintaining #heatwave conditions over western Europe. Seen in the water vapour channel of Meteosat-11 #UKHeatwave #heatwaveuk

  15. Not saying that my brain is struggling to function in the current UK heat?

But I just tried to articulate to my wife that we needed to chill more water in the fridge, and the only words my brain could offer for fridge were ‘Cold Jacuzzi’. That’s so wrong on many levels.

    Send Ice.

  16. If you use medication - including inhalers - and keep spare/extra in the car it’s already cooked and you need to replace it.

Tomorrow if possible you should definitely make sure all your medication is stored in a temperature controlled environment such as a cupboard you know to be cool. #UKHeatWave #medicine

  17. We've been struggling to sleep the past few nights and waking up at 1am and 5am in the morning due to this #heat.

We live on a main road and our bedroom window opens on to it - we have to choose either closing the windows and baking or opening the windows and getting deafened by lorries driving past at 2am.

We're wearing earplugs but that isn't helping much. We have a tiny fan that does nothing. We've removed all the blankets and still it's too hot.

    No wonder I am tired!

  18. Do not want…

At least I'm managing to keep the indoor temps below 24degC (so far). All doors and windows closed since 09:00, blinds closed on windows facing sunwards

  19. Be safe if you're going out this week, UK peeps! It's scorching out there! Wear a sunhat, put on sunscreen, and bring a bottle of water with you! #UKHeatwave #StaySafe #SelfCare
