  1. Blech, Reform have just squeaked into a 5th seat with a paper thin majority of 98 after recounts.

  2. The North East has gone all red, now that Labour has taken the two Northumberland seats from the Tories. I'd rather it was all green, but I'll take it. 😉 #UKGE2024 #GE2024

  3. Party activists and MPs being gathered at Downing Street to greet Starmer, but he hasn't even seen the king yet. Hope they don't keep them waiting too long in the rain! #GE2024 #UKGE2024

  4. Larry is out front at Downing Street, having a snooze. It's like he knows the world is watching Number 10 even more than usual today. 😸 #GE2024 #UKGE2024

  5. BBC pundits talking about whether it was a mistake on Sunak's part to run for party leader when he did. It absolutely was, if he really wanted to end up in power for a long time. He must have known nobody was going to be able to recover from the mess the country and the party was in after Truss. That the next election was already lost. #UKGE2024

  6. I stayed up long enough for Rees-Mogg, not long enough for Truss.

    How 'bout you?

  7. Has this UK general election result provided the most disproportional representation ever?

Belarus is the only other country in Europe that uses the single-round first-past-the-post voting system in general elections.

  8. Lying in my tent listening to the rain and the sound of Tory tears…

  9. Labour got half a million fewer votes than they did in 2019, and most of them were people voting Labour just to get the Tories out.

For a landslide, this is an astonishingly hollow victory. A landslide defeat for the Conservative Party, with Labour winning by default.

  10. I'm so happy to wake up and see that the Green party have 4 MPs; the media have to talk about them now

  11. Reform still only on 4 seats. More in line with the pre-election forecast rather than the exit poll estimate of 13. Hope that's their lot. #UKGE2024 #GE2024

  12. It's subtle, but I think Starmer is trying to hint that he's changed the Labour party. #GE2024 #UKGE2024

  13. Jacob Rees Mogg loses his seat! 🎉 At the same moment as Labour passes 326 seats to win the election. Sweet! #GE2024 #UKGE2024 #ToryDeathParty

  14. Too many Tory big names—IDS, Badenoch, Braverman, Jenrick—keeping their seats for my liking, in many cases due to a split on Labour and Lib Dem voters on the left. But at least Penny Mordaunt is out. 🚮 #UKGE2024

  15. Sunak has arrived at his count, implying his result is soon. (I assume as PM he has so much security and press following him about it's best to stay away from the count until the last moment, so as not to disrupt things and get in the way.) #GE2024 #UKGE2024

  16. Iain Duncan Smith, massively full of himself, warns Labour might be arrogant in government. #GE2024 #UKGE2024

  17. The BBC’s revised exit poll now predicts a 160 majority for Labour, 154 seats for the Tories, just 6 for the SNP (!), and 4 for Reform—who they have been talking up all night. 🤨 #UKGE2024

  18. My constituency, Newcastle North, is a Labour hold. Catherine McKinnell with a majority of 17,762.

That's not her total votes - that's her majority. 👀

  19. Ugh, Farage finally gets into the House of Commons. 🤢 #GE2024 #UKGE2024

  20. For Labour: This is a historically huge majority, but not a huge vote share. They'll have everything to do to convince people to actually support them.

That will mainly mean simply doing things well. They probably won't be as progressive as I'd like. But if they do adequate things well, that should see them through for a while.

  21. Oh god, looking like Clacton declaration might be close. 😬#GE2024 #UKGE2024

  22. Where there was a real chance of keeping Labour/LD out, Reform didn't beat the Conservatives. Where the Conservatives were doomed, loads of their voters went for Reform.

That tells me that a lot of Reform votes are disilussioned Conservatives, not ardent Reformists. Also that there is far less worry about letting a Starmer Labour party taking power than there was about letting a Corby Labour party do so.

  23. British politics, where the man about to become Prime Minister shares a platform with a guy dressed as Elmo. And the outgoing PM will later be on a platform with Count Binface. I love it. 😁 #UKGE2024 #GE2024
