... you're a human, not because you get a basic income. If you read the #UDHR and think that you still need an income after all your rights are met, I do not understand you. If all of your rights are met, you have access to as much education as it takes to do what you want.

The UDHR and the UN were part of an imperfect but vital architecture: a rules-based world order where big and small, powerful and less powerful, were at least meant to have a seat at the table.
As that order is ignored more casually, and treated as optional when inconvenient, one question becomes harder to avoid:
What kind of future are we building, if the institutions created to restrain power are no longer taken seriously?

Not a freedom of speech thing.
Both Human Rights do need to be considered together.

The UDHR doesn't grant rights — it declares them. Then Article 29 quietly hands the state a master key to revoke any of them for "general welfare".
A right the state can limit is a license. A freedom requiring permission is a privilege with better branding.

Today is #HumanRightsDay, which is held every year on December 10. Why that date? To commemorate the #UnitedNations' proclamation, on December 10, 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (#UDHR).
On this day, and every day, we pray that the government of #China will start respecting the rights of the #Uyghurs living within its borders. Until that happens, we will continue protesting each month outside the Chinese embassy in #WashingtonDC.
